I have to agree CozyLittleCave. I actually just tidied my studio the other day, but if I'm making anything then it will be a bit messy.

That's the point of having a dedicated studio - so that you can spread out & don't have to constantly clear everything away off the dining table in the middle of projects.

Of course I'd love either the Craftroom Organizing Island and/or The Original Scrapbox & MiniBox if I had the spare cash!

My friend bought a house that had fir floorboards under the dirty 70s carpet, so of course she ripped the carpet up...
to find that someone had carved 1 inch wide grooves into the actual floorboards to accommodate the TV cabling!!! The grooves are cut right across the MIDDLE of the living/dining room, then make a L turn towards the front door.

Every time I think 'what type of person would do that?', my head boggles - there is a basement directly below those rooms, so they could have just drilled one small hole to feed the cables through, then another at the front of the house.

The effort involved in making what appear to be hand-chiseled grooves for some 20 feet through beautiful fir floorboards would have been considerably harder than just drilling a few holes.

I mainly only use an iron for sewing projects, so I have a mini-ironing board for small items. If I need to iron larger items, I just use the kitchen counter with a towel on top.

I have never ironed my clothes, even when I have had corporate jobs. All my clothes are hung on hangers to drip dry, then straight into the wardrobe - so they don't get wrinkly. I only use the dryer for sheets and towels.

I have a friend with the OCD ironing gene who even irons her underwear! I never notice how well-ironed her clothes are, and she has never noticed that I don't iron anything! When I told her (after 10 years of friendship) that I don't iron, she was amazed. The thing is that within 10 minutes of wearing clothes the difference between hours spent ironing & no ironing is negligible.

Wow - this is an enchanting house tour!

I went searching for Evan's artwork, and you can really see how his artistic vision for decorating ties in with his artwork.

Evan's website: www.evanbharris.com

And you can buy prints of his work at: www.charmingwall.com

P.S. No, I'm not Evan's agent, just a fellow artist who loves to see such meticulous and beautiful work.

Hi abc123 - I have a Blaze King 'Princess' wood burning fireplace insert. They have a website at www.blazeking.com

We got ours through a local fireplace supplier here in Canada, and Blaze King are in the USA as well.

I see on their site that you can save up to $1500 on a USA Federal Tax Credit when you buy that model. We were able to claim on a rebate scheme with our stove, but would have happily paid the full amount anyway as we love our wood burning stove. I feel OK about burning a quickly renewable resource (wood) as opposed to using ancient oil, gas or coal.

Also our stove has an LHV of 88% - to qualify for tax credits it must meet a minimum 75% efficiency rating.
(LHV or "Lower heating value" refers to the amount of heat released when the fuel is burned, minus the energy used to vaporize any water in the fuel.)

(PS That last paragraph may not make sense... What I mean is that we can run our fire for up to 21 hours without stoking or re-stocking it with wood.)

For those who have not encountered the new super-efficient wood stoves, they really are amazing. Our heating costs are about a quarter on what gas furnace heating cost.

They only need to be stocked with wood a couple of times a day if you use them efficiently, which means that you can actually build a new fire once at the beginning of winter and that's it (unless you go away on vacation etc).

Our new super-efficient wood stove advertised a burn time of approximately 15 hours, which even the installer disputed. So we ran a test of our own, and actually were able to run the fire in the 'active zone' for 21 hours!

What a great idea! I wonder why more people don't do this? Is it a lack of communal spirit/creativity, or (more likely) that often council zoning laws make it too difficult in many countries?

I can think about a project for years, but sometimes I just suddenly HAVE to do something immediately...
EG: I was leaving for overseas the next day, but had to paint my front door bright yellow. It looks great, but why do I do this to myself?
Meanwhile, my sister has been talking about stripping her ancient wallpaper in her kitchen for years. A year ago, over one too many drinks, we ended up ripping some of the old wallpaper to 'force' her to take it all down. I was at her house a year later after returning from overseas, and she had STAPLED the ripped wallpaper back up!!!

Although I'm usually a turned off by real animal pelts, I love the first photo - it's listed as 'an antelope-print carpet' in the linked article, so perhaps it's faux fur?

@kushkush - I really stared at the purple banister cover while watching the movie because it looked so strange! At first I thought it was just a trick of the light, and that the balustrade was really made from a wood that had a purple sheen.

I just watched this 2 days ago! They certainly made a feature of the staircase, which is super-funky.
I loved the scene in which Audrey is shown in a gorgeous citrus yellow Givenchy frock in front of the purple staircase.
