I keep hoping mine will utterly destroy the cooktop so I have a good excuse to get rid of the awful thing.

I would have to side with Crystal in this debate for exactly the reasons you describe: it's more peppery than vinegary. There are definitely times when you'll want to use the tabasco in cooking for just that reason. For the table, however, i prefer the Crystal (and the Sriracha of course).

There is a family up the street who can often be seen sitting out front. While the furniture on which they pass the time is a miss-matched collection of ratty, decomposing eye-sores, I always liked that they sat out there and took the neighborhood in (as opposed to my own sitting out back and tuning the neighborhood out). This past weekend, they had their 4th of July celebration out on their front yar, grills and all, with some folding tables set up. I'll admit to thinking that they may have been doing it right all along.

I like having wine around the house, and have a full rack of it, but it never occoured to me until reading this that unopened bottles could go bad. Guess I should have figured that out from playing Maniac Mansion.

Can anyone point me to an online site that could help me determine which of my wines are still good (without me needing to open them) and which need to hit the compost?

I moved a turntable into the living room (thanks Spring Cure), and now fill the house with jazz and soul when I cook and tidy up. My favorite right now is The Best of Sam Cooke on RCA records - it's the perfect length for that quick daily clean. I find that, even if I'm done after the first side, I'll flip it and find something else to work on for the B.

It's funny, one of the first things I thought of when I saw a video of the gadget in action was "oh man. this is going to be the best ever thing in the kitchen." It's not just that it will be, essentially, the world's most complete cookbook, but the ability to look-up (and watch videos of) techniques i am not familiar with, etc. will be great.
