Thanks for linking to my post. The photo is my Tina Barney and was featured in the New York magazine article recently about the Spades.

One my readers let me know about this post since he read almost the same one on my blog, Habitually Chic, yesterday, http://habituallychic.blogspot.com/2009/12/shhhwere-eating.html. The reason I wrote it was because of the post the day before which was also about library dining rooms, http://habituallychic.blogspot.com/2009/12/design-inspiration.html. I don't think your post was a coincidence considering the timing or the fact that you used many of the same images so I would have appreciated a mention or link to my post. Thanks.

Hi Jason,

The chairs are vintage. I think they are from the 1950's but I would have to check my files. I purchased them from Irwin Feld in CT, http://www.irwinfelddesign.com/, through 1stdibs. They were just described as club chairs.

I knew I wanted a pair of chairs so I searched on 1stdibs "pair of chairs" until I found a few styles that I liked that would work in the room. I showed them to my client and eventually we settled on those. The sofa is vintage C&B Italia and is very low so the chairs also had to be low and those complement it perfectly.

Hope this helps!

I know this is going to sound cheesy but I saw Kenneth Brown on HGTV tackle this same exact problem. He added wood paneling above the fireplace and created built-ins and a place for a tv and some closed spaces and open shelves on the other side.

It really created an interesting focal point in the room. There is a photo of it on his web site under rooms, http://www.kennethbrowndesign.com/rooms.php. He did such a great job, it looks like an original feature of the house.

If you did something similar, you could them reposition the sofa to face that wall and then create a different seating area behind it in the other side of the room.

I love the wall color and the white trim! I say definitely keep it but I suggest swapping out the round table for a rectangular white parsons style dining table. I think the contrast with the antique looking chairs would be perfect.
