This sounds wonderful! Lemon and milk do go together. Think lemon cheesecake, pasta with cream sauce and thyme--the combinations are endless. I'm sure the chicken recipe would be good with cream as well, but this way seems a smidge more healthful. Also, there's a difference between milk changing consistency under heat and curdling because it's spoiled. Use the freshest milk possible and all should be fine. Can't wait to try this!

Nice project. Would love to know what color gray paint you used. Thanks.

Thanks, Lindsay. I have a couple of (non-antique) wooden trunks in my bedroom (stained dark, not painted) and they're the only items I own that have that look going on. I've been wanting to refinish them with a beachy, washed-out kind of look but didn't quite know how. This is a big help to me.

where to begin -- this is such a beautiful apartment! it's well-designed and well-thought out, but not overly fussy -- very welcoming and oh-so deliciously literary. great sense/use of color and light.

Is there any way you could make a rolling cart work? Perhaps something with hinges/leaves that could be expanded when in use, and minimally slim when "parked."

i think the color is fun and the couch is cool. but the couch seems to big for the space. it's sticking out beyond the doorway, yes? if so, is there anywhere else you can place the couch, perhaps away from or facing the wall? then you could have a chair near the wall instead and some artwork, perhaps.

I lived without paper towels for a long time, then a cat, who is hairball-prone, came into my life. I have decided that when he ralphs up a hairball, I don't want to clean it up with a towel I then have to rinse out--I just want to be rid of the grossness asap.

Do it! I just looked at the prices of Ikea sofas, and they range from $500 to $1,200. And that's for something that everyone else in the world has/can have. If you reupholster you will have a one-of-a-kind original, and it will last decades, which you can't really say about Ikea. (Not to knock Ikea; I have plenty of their stuff and like it.) Don't take out a loan or go into debt to do this project, but if you can swing it, pick the person who has the best recommendations and gives you the best vibe (not necessarily the lowest quote) and negotiate, letting him/her know that you have lower quotes. Good luck and have fun!

I'd like to try this sofa. It's a happy piece of furniture. I love things that convert, or have more than one function.

Super-white toilet paper isn't very green either--it's usually been bleached, if it's manufactured by the big companies, and this is horrible for the environment. If you have a choice, look for unbleached. But if you have no choice, well, pink is pretty. Reminds me of my grandmother's gigantic pink-and-black tiled bathroom.

I think this is a great loveseat. The shape is terrific and I love the small-scale size as well. Wish I could find something similar for myself! I recovered and old couch years ago and although I spent nearly as much as I could have on a new couch, the old one literally became better than new--the upholsterer not only did great work but tightened the frame, polished the wood, etc. Go for it.

very nice! i especially like the bed and nightstand--very cosy and warm, even with cool white. i've been thinking about painting my own boring pine bedframe white, and after seeing yours i just might do it.

I've done this forever and I get lots of compliments. It takes away the anxiety (and hole) of pounding a nail, plus you can change arrangements whenever you feel like it. I've never found that I needed to prop up my art with anything, but I have put little round plastic "bumpers" on the top back corners to keep the frames from scraping white walls. Leaning artwork also adds a little depth and dimension, casts a bit of a shadow--making it somewhat 3-dimensional as compared to the more 2-dimensional traditional hang. This is one place where laziness really does lead to more creativity and liveliness for me!

I've been thinking of buying this exact same fridge! Mine's about to konk out and this is just the dimensions I need. Delivery is always a problem because I live in a fifth-floor walk-up, though. By chance do you have stairs in your apt. and was the delivery company OK with that??

Your desk reminds me of the Nelson Swag Leg Desk at DWR:

The Nelson desk is solid walnut with white laminate, and I think the contrast is really fresh and modern. DWR suggests pairing their desk with the Nelson Swag Leg Armchair in white, which makes a great set. You could try copying this look with your desk.
