Our 2 boys share a room, and our daughter has her own. This gave us space in what was once the youngest's room to have a playroom. We have bookshelves with kids books, toys, even a drum set, guitars on the wall, and a play kitchen. And a train table in the middle! It's not a big room; probably close to 10x12. But it works! And best of all, when friends are over, it's a great place to hang out, and it keeps the toy clutter contained to one part of the house.

I noticed on the Target website that they have a cool Lego brick wall light, and two different Lego man flashlights.

I just have to add; my name is Jeanine, and I have had so much trouble throughout my life with that name, with people pronouncing it or spelling it, that I have always just gone by Jenny. Plain, old, common Jenny. I'm named after my great-grandmother from Poland, whose name was Yanina. I wish my parents would have gone with the Polish version, and maybe called me Nina for short (many in my family do call me Neane, however). People would always say Jean or Jeannie or totally mess up the spelling... ::sigh::
That being said, I have had many people call me Jennifer, after repeatedly being told that I go by Jenny. In conclusion, it doesn't matter! If someone has a problem with your child's name, it's because of that person, not the name!

Our children are Harmony, Ocean, and Denali. Their names mean a lot to us, and all three of them are very happy with their names, as well. It's sad, though; sometimes, it's so much like what clothes you wear, where you live, what car you drive...people will judge you if they feel like doing so. We never took that judgement into consideration, because it is meaningless. It's a reflection of poor character to treat someone that way. I think if Mary or Billy are precious names to you, then I could see that, too. If you want a kid named Book or Pencil, so be it. Raise a happy person to do something good in the world, regardless. :)

I don't find it weird. I can see how other people may find it weird, but personally, it doesn't bother me. I know it seems a bit silly in the form of a teddy bear, but I see it more as being 'cherished'; something very personal and intimate..no wonder people react the way they do. Placenta teddy bear.....a dead person's ashes kept in a jar....I'd rather have the bear.

I was wondering how it looked so meticulously manicured! I thought, "That grass is so perfect, it doesn't even look real!" Well, duh, it's faux turf! Yet it looks so cool. Lovely backyard!

@spicklebee:

We did a slight Ikea hack to make a desk area, shared by 2 of our kids, for homeschooling. We used a granite top, but the same idea could be applied with wood or any other such material. Here is a (slightly outdated) photo:

I should take new pictures of that space, now that it's got much more going for it; we've been using it for a few years already. The Helmer drawer units from Ikea are so great for organizing everything from crayons to papers and folders for school work.

That is so sweet! I wish I could think of something similar for corralling letter-writing materials around here...I was just thinking of giving my kids a box to store in their desks, and they could take it out to write a note whenever the fancy strikes...hmm....or maybe one of those divided desk organizer thingies for each desk? Yay for snail mail!

LOVE the blue stripes! The pops of black and red are so satisfying to me. We are planning on doing something very similar in our boys' shared room. We're getting there! I love the photo above for inspiration.
