I had a very long labor with my first child-- 64 hours with back labor-- though I still managed a natural birth. I remember points when I would think, how much more of this can I take, how much longer is this going last? And I would feel very discouraged. My doula would say to me, can you get through this one contraction? You don't have to worry about what comes next. You just have to get through this one contraction. And that made all the difference. To just be in the moment. But I definitely needed someone to constantly me bring back to the moment.

Oilcloth is made from PVC, which typically contains BPA and can off-gas dioxins, lead and mercury (www.chej.org has a lot of info about PVC). It's not a good material for anything that comes close to food, such as pantry shelf lining or table cloths, or anything that kids might put in their mouths, such as bibs or aprons.

This is visually attractive, but maps are always political and I'm not sure the designers have thought through the politics that are suggested by this "map."

We went straight from the crib to a full size mattress on the floor when my son, who is also rather tall, was about 2 1/2. The full size mattress gives him enough space that rolling out of the bed isn't really an issue. And if he does, the mattress is on the floor, so it's not really a fall. Soon, we'll get a low platform bed for the mattress. He should be able to use this bed for years, much longer than a toddler bed. Another benefit of this arrangement: once he was out of the crib, he wanted to get out of his bed and into our bed a lot. So we would tell him to go back to his bed, but mommy or daddy would lie down with him. We'd stay with him until he fell asleep. Eventually, he stayed in his bed on his own without us.

i have had the nurseryworks "two wide" changing table, which is the bigger version of this one, for a little less than two years now. i love the design, but have not been very happy with the actual product.

the lacquer paint chips very easily. the changing table piece has a number of small chips in the paint along the top outside edge and it has not been abused in any way-- hasn't been moved around, hasn't had anything rough or hard bang up against it. it just seems to spontaneously chip. and when you have a piece of furniture that is a bright blue lacquer, chips really stand out. also, the pine base has splintered along the edges in a couple of places and, again, not because anything has knocked in to it or even rubbed up against it.

this is a fairly expensive piece of furniture and i had hoped that after we were finished with the changing table top, we'd take it off and my son would use the dresser for many years to come. but i don't have a lot of confidence in how well this piece will hold up over the course of several more years.
