I agree with everyone who mentioned French 75. The nice thing about this drink is that you can prep the glasses with everything, but the Champagne before the guest arrive and you are not tied to mixing drinks.

Also consider punch style drinks like Sangria.

Baked apples stuffed with brown sugar, walnuts and cognac. To capture the lovely caramelized sugar, place a piece of bread (whole grain or not depending on taste).

My host in Paris made this for me when I was on a study aboard and it was wonderful.

Agree with everyone about the hand food. It's also nice to have hand fruits like cherries, strawberries and blackberries. There is also a recipe for a very refreshing chickpea salad that is eaten with flat bread (like pita) at the url below that is best served warm at summer room tempature:
