I love reading about morning and evening rituals. Mostly because I'm watching less TV late into the night, and also not punishing myself at the gym (and instead, raising the heart rate but being a little kinder to myself), many more of my mornings are looking like this:
up by 5 - pee, then stand in the cold outside waiting for the dog to pee, while I drink a cup of warm water with lemon.
5:15 - 7 min. drive to gym
6:15 - back at home, shower, brush teeth, moisturize, etc., put on nice warm robe and slippers, make bed, blow dry hair at bedroom vanity (just a table with a mirror, but so much more relaxing than the bathroom)
6:40 - make breakfast (generally oatmeal) while putting away any dishes on rack from night before
6:45 - eat breakfast while reading, mostly blogs on a wide variety of topics but no hard news (not ready for cold, hard reality just yet)
7:15 - make-up at the vanity, dress, dog out one more time and settled in the bathroom with bed, food, water, and radio.
7:35 - 12 min. drive to work, where I get that first great cup of tea, and read the news before starting at 8.
On those days once in awhile where I just don't pull myself out of bed in time, I skip the gym, and bring my oatmeal to eat at my desk, but I seem to have a much better day when I take this time for myself in the morning, and get my butt out of bed.

Really beautiful, organized, and friendly. It looks like real people who appreciate beauty and read, use the space and enjoy time together there. 'Cheerful' and 'basement' don't often get used together, but definitely applies here!

You must be very proud. You did a great job! Love the color of the subway tile, and how it blends with the other great choices. The recessed lighting makes a huge difference. And I love color, but love this space is so calm and relaxing. Besides, there is color! What about that beautiful teakettle!

I really like it. I can understand that it might be hard to keep clean, but as far as the way it looks; it's very modern and creative.

I've been debating painting my bedroom a similar color, from white. You've just sold me. This room has exactly the mood I'm hoping for. Beautiful!

Mahzer&vee, thank you very much! High compliment! Psimon, regarding the radio, I can tell you a bit, since when I bought it at a garage sale 25 yrs. ago, it came with the original instructions & station call letter tabs. It's a Zenith cabinet radio, manufactured in Chicago, in 1940 according to this, http://antiqradio.com/antique-radios.html. It has the vacuum tubes in the rear. Apparently, the radio dial, has the option of being switched with a television picture receiver, perhaps as a, then, future option? The radio still works, but there is a small belt I need to have replaced in order to change stations. The same model appears briefly in the movie, "When Harry Met Sally". When the friends (played by Carrie Fisher & Bruno Kirby) are shown in their new apartment, you can see it in the background of a few scenes. I love it as a memento of a large part of our cultural history, when family's would gather every evening to listen. Thanks for asking!

Thanks! I thought about explaining the term, but then I figured with Google, no need. I just hope my room represents the concept well. I've been told by my Dutchie friends that it does.

Perfection. It is so difficult to find that right balance between displaying all our memories and dreams in our home in a way we can enjoy, and not having it look either too spare, with nothing of ourselves, or so full of crap, we can't appreciate it. What and eye for that perfect balance. I also love the balance of color. All the calm neutrals and wood, with beautiful pops of color. This is clearly one of the best homes I've seen. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

So glad to see the Meyer May House in Grand Rapids, MI listed. Any Frank Lloyd Wright, or, for that matter, any fan of architecture should not miss this one! It is considered the most completely restored & meticulous restoration of all the Wright homes. You will most definitely understand his full vision and what it was like for the May's to live there. It doesn't at all feel like a museum, but that the May family just stepped out for a minute. As an aside, I actually lived in the apt. next door back in the '70's when it was in major disrepair and falling apart. I knew it was a FLW, and would feel so sad looking out my kitchen window everyday at this beautiful masterpiece in such ruin. Little did I know then, that Steelcase, the office furniture co., would buy it several years later and save it for the generations. Well worth a trip. And the rest of Grand Rapids is just an added bonus. The Grand Rapids LipDub on YouTube will give you a bit of a sense of what we're about. I love living here.

Oh how I love this apartment. It DID make me smile with every picture. I love the mix from many periods, and how it is so evident that you collected only what you love, over time. I especially love that it's full of so many interesting details, but doesn't feel cluttered at all. It feels so comfortable and restful, exactly as a home should feel. Thank you!
