Christmas began as a religious holiday-- but in practice I think it's currently more about family and friends. Don't we all go to parties that have nothing to do with baby Jesus? Is that wrong? It's just a time of celebrating relationships in our life. Sending cards is a part of that.

My kids don't smile for a tripod. I actually have a wireless remote I set up and use sometimes for candid fun shots at events. It's great. But doesn't seem to quite do the trick for a family portrait type shot.

Personally, I think the answer is more a matter of logistics than body image for most folks. In my family, I (the mother) am the photographer, and my husband is next to me making silly faces or being funny or whatever to get the kids to smile in a genuine way. I'd looove to get us all in the shot, but hiring a photographer is ridiculously expensive. Yes, you could ask a friend who has a good eye for these things to help, but it's an imposition...

Our son got one for Christmas at 18 months and played with it immediately, and still does at 3.5 yrs. old.

"Anno's Journey" by Mitsumasa Anno is a beautifully illustrated wordless book--you follow a character through intricate illustrations of European villages (kind of like Where's Waldo, but less difficult, it can be a challenge to find where he is on each page). My 3 yr. old loves this book. There all these references in the illustrations to art and literature that are entertaining for us adults, too.

I thought we had found the perfect nightlight, BUT like others have said, it quits working out of the blue and it's so frustrating. My son got hooked on having his "Blue Man" (what we named it), so when the nightlight quick recharging, I bought another. And another. And then my mom bought him another when we refused to buy any more b/c of the same problem happening over and over. We went through 4 of these and they all went kaput after just a few months (at most) of use. And we followed the manufacturer's charging directions to a "T." Now we use a closet light turned on and that's been the best solution yet.

Obviously the pink should probably go, but I think the most feminine aspect is the scalloped roofline-- I would go to a hobby shop and get something to cover up the scallop part, or if you have any skills with woodworking to trim the curves off yourself. What a great find!

Is it gross that I use my own body heat? I put the butter in a plastic bag, and then tuck it between my arm and my side while I'm getting the rest of my ingredients together.

I can't wait to try the glass trick though.

I have definitely had my child wake up before due to the smells of some late night cooking. I wish I had thought of putting down a draft protector until. Brilliant.

While I haven't done it in my home, I work for a museum where we use this process regularly in our exhibits. My first thoughts: keep in mind is that if your home has a dramatic changes in temperature or humidity (in a short amount of time, not seasonally) the paper will peel up. Also, colors fade faster than others in bright light, so black and white would be a safer bet. Also, you must clean your wall really well (dust and dirt is the enemy) if you want it to adhere evenly. If I were doing it, I would also consider applying the adhesive vinyl to foamcore or gatorboard instead of directly to the wall, and then attaching the foamcore to the wall (nails/screws), for ease of removal if you don't want it there too permanently.
