Love this! I bought an old ladder at Brimfield and I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with it. Unfortunately, it's the kind that leans, not an A-Frame. But now I want to buy an A-Frame!

I would change out any and all fixtures that you can: the ceiling lights, the window treatments, even the faucets if they're ugly. I really think these small changes get rid of that cookie-cutter feeling. Then, I would embrace the modern style but adding some contemporary pieces (maybe from Ikea if you're penny pinching) to ADD to your antiques. Mixing it up like that would really make your new home feel personalized. Good luck! Show us the "after" photos once you're settled!

Yes! I love thinking of my home as an evolving space, reflecting both my current interests and treasures that have stayed with me for a long time. Great article! Thanks!

What a lovely idea! First the bar cart makes a comeback and now, the coffee cart!

This looks great! I love the idea of showing off the covers... I mean, it's the covers that attract me to particular cookbooks in the first place, encourage me to browse through them and then imagine making the recipes inside. What a great way to remember why you bought them in the first place!

Forget about the kids, I want some of these for myself! My faves are the first two (the marquee sign and the piggy bank), the grey and white sheets and the very last one of the wallpaper. I've pinned that Hygee & West wallpaper before and I'm obsessed with it! Thanks for sharing!

I love how passionate everyone is being in the comments! I have a huge piece of art in my kitchen, although it's on the wall opposite my stove and I LOVE having it there. I'm a big fan of making the kitchen feel like the other rooms in my house (with a lamp on the counter, a rug on the floor and art on the walls). I adore the paint color of the bedroom nook and I like the picture rail, too. I don't have a problem with the art that's in this bathroom b/c it looks like it might all be inexpensive reprints, posters, postcards, that type of thing. As for the concern of spraying toilet water when you flush, just close the lid! Everyone should ALWAYS close the lid!!!

I really love that first photo where the black and white couch is below a mix of color and different metallics and woods from the frames. I think black and white is a great background for pops of color and I usually prefer that to an all black and white scheme.

Love this! We hosted a soup party at the beginning of the cold weather season and we had a great time. We gave everyone containers and recipe cards ahead of time. After the party, everyone went home with a stack of containers filled with one of each kind of soup. Love how you did it w/ to-go containers and the book swap is an awesome add-on! I love my vanity! I'm so glad I've taken the time (and space) to set one up. We recently posted a piece about it on our blog, Little Yellow Couch:

WOWZA! Love, love, love. The art is amazing. The color combos are spot on. I want to meet these people and convince them to invite me over for a cup of tea.

This is a great new way to think about painting walls! I really dislike that design idea where you paint one wall a "dramatic" color and the rest are painted something else, usually something fairly basic. It always looked to me as if the person didn't have the confidence to just paint the whole room with the "daring" color. But this colorblocking idea looks totally different because it looks so intentional. I think my fav is the one with the grays painted diagonally. Thanks for sharing!

Hi there! I love chalkboards as backgrounds and these are all great. My fav is the speech bubble. At Little Yellow Couch (www.littleyellowcouch.com) we recently posted a printable chalkboard label to attach to containers you might be using for Thanksgiving leftover. You can find it and print it out here:

SUCH a lovely home! I particularly like the photo of the living room with the salon style framed pieces over the couch. And that group of black and white suitcases by the door...it looks like you're always ready for an adventure! I use a stack of vintage suitcases in my guest room as a nightstand. It started b/c I didn't actually have a nightstand, but now I love having them there. And my business partner has a similar stack in her living room. But I really like the graphic punch of the black ones you have and the way they're lined up, ready to go! I love it!
