@MonW - I agree. Any recipe that does not include a nutritional breakdown (with calories) does not get made in my house. I am halfway through an obesity battle and need all the help I can get.

When I was a nanny, I packed for plane trips all the time. Here are my Go To items:

Band-Aids (really - kids love them)
Etch-a-Sketch
Crayons (washable)
Notepad
Coloring Books
Clean T-shirt & Undies (ya never know)
iPod (if possible, with appropriate music)
Lovie (stuffed anilmal, blankie, etc.)
Snacks!!!
Board Books

Great! Especially for kid's with FAS who need a little help remembering tasks.

I'm a born and bred Alaskan and while I don't have a kid - I have done the long haul flights home very, very often.

If you're flying in Sept then you'll probably be on an Alaskan Airlines flight (most airlines only fly to AK in the summer tourist months). The greta thing about SEATAC to AK flights on Alaskan is that the atmosphere is very relaxed. However, the bulk of people flying at this time of year are Alaskan and so the airline frequently lowers the cabin's temperatures (maybe this saves them money?). So dress in layers and bring a blanket (pillows and blankets are no longer standard on AK Airlines flights). Also, the meals and snacks on that airlines are pay-for but yummy (hot pretzel and turkey sandwich - yes, please!).

I make all my own cleaning stuff, use my own bags shopping, use CFLs, turn off heat and AC, and have switched to microfiber clothes for everything.

But! I cannot make the switch to eco-friendly/organic hair and body stuff. I have serious oil issues and none of it works. Also, I cannot give up Dawn - it's the only thing that removes the grease from The Boy's work clothes.

Yay for including Henry Spencer - Shawn and Henry's relationship on "Psych" is more real to me than most of the lauded "Best TV Dads".

Home Ec was hands down one of the most popular classes in my high school (for both genders). We had the coolest teacher ever (Hi, Ms. Erikson!!!) and people literally fought to be in her classes. She taught cooking, sewing, cleaning, and even etiquette. To this day, I am grateful for the things that I learned in her class and use them all the time.
