When I moved into my condo, the upper cabinets were all open. I have discovered I love it.
-- I got rid of all the dishes that either didn't have the color scheme I decided on or weren't white or clear. Lots of stuff to goodwill, and everything that was left I love.

--I don't buy extras of things, and I don't buy things I don't use. I don't like looking at them, and I can see they take the space of somethign I actually would eat/use.

--I keep things tidy.

--Cooking is faster, because I see everything I need, and getting help with cleaning/cooking is a snap, because so can everyone else.

--The kitchen feels functional, like a place where food activities happen, and then when the food time is over, I move into the living room instead of lingering in the kitchen and hoovering whatever is lying around.

I think what mtlyorel is saying is that the reason it's hard to come up with a good picture to hang over the bed is that even the perfect wall hanging will likely not bring the effect that you want.

Look at wall paint color, the lamps, the curtains, and the bedding, and the picture will be obvious. Or, find a picture you love and tailor the room's look to fit it. However, you are unlikely to find a picture or a wall hanging to make the room look good as it stands now.

Extend the curtains behind the bed as well. This is a very gauzy, romantic option, and it solves the asymmetry problem.

I don't like the effect at all, but I do love that final picture.

I am all for new ways of displaying books, but unorganized stacks lying around doesn't seem like a killer idea. Unless they are just for show, it's really inconvenient - the books are both hard to see the spines and difficult to pull one from the pile without a lot of rearranging every time.

I have a clock in every room in the house. In the living room, I have a 3' clock that can be seen from the kitchen as well. I'd die without it, because I don't carry my phone without me at home and I need to be out the door in the morning at a certain time.

When I got my own place, I fiddled with the kitchen and dining room until it finally felt right, without really knowing why. It was my aunt who saw it and pointed out that it was the same colors that my grandmother's and my mother's kitchens had been.

My living room is completely different, but one thing that is the same as my childhood home is the utter absense of any paint or textile on the brown spectrum. The only brown in the house is the wood floors and some of the furniture, and everything painted is white or a vibrant color.

Hang it from the ceiling on thin, rough rope. You don't want to mess up the brick wall with the hole that wheel would require.

And, priscilla: Oh, yes. Definitely.

I love #8 - that's a beautiful room, and since the other walls are the same color, the wallpaper adds texture instead of a color shock.

You're nervous. Put glass on top. What you may slightly lose in aesthetics will be more than made up for in peace of mind.

Oh, I hate it. Too much beige, too much brown. It all looks vaguely dirty.

I live alone in 600 square feet, and it's perfect. I don't need any more room, although my bedroom is stuffed with furniture. It would be cleaner if I were willing to part with some of my mother's things.

But the layout is great and with windows everywhere and a great floor plan, it feels bigger than it is. It really is perfect for one person. For two people, I'd like one more room for an office so someone can be working while the other is watching TV or cooking.

I have open shelving, and I love it. The glasses are stored upside down, and the dishes are used and washed regularly.

The open food storage isn't "pretty", but it's practical and tidy and face into my kitchen rather than out into the dining area. The open food shelves makes cooking and shopping immensely easier - I can see at a glance what I have and food doesn't get "lost" in cabinets I never open.

From the dining area you can see white shelves and walls with beautiful black dishes, green tumblers, and cobalt glasses. The white, black, blue, and green serving dishes are stored on the top shelves and get used once a month or so for parties. It's perfect.

I, too, am wondering about dishes that are so seldom used they get nasty but so often used that washing them twice prevents open shelving. Unless someone is running a deep fryer daily in their kitchen, it shouldn't be a problem.

The wall is fine, but to lessen the matchy with the couch, paint the doors white and swap the mirror on the brown wall for a large, pale picture with some of the dining room purple in it.

Ammonia - put some in a little bottle and apply to bites as soon as you notice. They'll sting like a bugger for a moment and then never itch again.

This is beautiful.

I think it really works because the furniture itself is stark and plain. If there were any color or pattern in the furniture, it would be horrific, but the furnishings melt away and allow the color to be the focal points.

I like it.
