One caveat about the boiling water trick: DO NOT pour boiling water on poison ivy. The steam will contain the plant's oils, which could get on your skin or in your lungs. I have first-hand knowledge of the misery that will ensue.

Environmentally speaking, the best thing to do is donate them so that someone else can use them.

Alternately, you could use them to store stuff in your house -- craft supplies, nuts and bolts, etc.

Every time I bring recycled into our house, I get vociferous complaints from my husband and children. So, for now, we're back to the plush stuff and we're working diligently in other areas to make up the difference.

My family of four has four bikes: a hybrid that my husband rides to and from work, a cruiser that i use for running errands and general tooling around, and two kids' bikes for our daughters.

We'll soon be increasing that number to add a road bike for my husband who's training for a triathlon.

We are also thinking about getting a tandem for longer rides with our kids.

I started growing more and more of my own food because it tastes better. Then, I started learning to preserve my bounty so that I could have better tasting food for longer. Composting was a natural extension of that, as I am constantly in need of organic matter to amend my soil.
