its actually really not hard to stage a room beautifully if you have access to designer items, such as when you work on a magazine. the deer on the plate, for example, is a hella jongerius creation. what i find compelling is when people are able to create great vignettes using only the resources and budget at their disposal. one usually finds that these vignettes evolve naturally over the years, as we acquire more interesting items. i know a woman who has been collecting curious items for over twenty years. i can tell you now her house wasnt as beautiful when she was a poor student as it is now!

having a pool, a garden and a big house is not eco friendly. thats right! i said it! drown me in protests if you want, but i dont understand ANYONES need for tons of space.

i would have left the chair as is. the 'after' is great - but the before had so much character.

the thing is, she has talent. but she works a 'look' in a very contrived way. i prefer designers and stylists to be a little bit more natural. doing a 'look' in a room is the best way to make sure you will hate it in two months. what i have never gotten from her design is a sense of ease. its all very rigid, even in the way it 'explodes' all over the place. i mean, ok, what is she doing now? channeling the late 70s. what did she do in the past? channel the 30s. hmmmm... i see a pattern emerging here.

and by the way, brass has been the new black for a long while already. but who cares if its trendy or not? if you like it use if, if not...dont.

i totally agree with modfan about how its so strange that we have these wild furry creatures running around our homes. i think its funny. i have two cats and they are a constant source of joy. but sometimes i look at them and am startled by the fact that these are creatures with fur, who do not speak english, who tear up the house and poop in front of me with no qualms. too weird.

oh and people get over yourselves. how did you go from 'pets are sort of a strange idea to me' to 'cannot make a connection with other living beings'. JEEEEZUZ. get a grip.

those things look kinda cheap. they make me throw up in mouth a little bit. sorry i know that's mean but they remind me of institution carpeting! those textures....

i like mid century modern if it's used sparingly. there are some undeniably beautiful pieces. but if you do your whole house in it it begins to become a bit oppressive. i find it so twee when overdone... oh god, mid-century furniture and vintage framed etsy prints of fat little birds and little red riding hood make me want to PUKE. its just... everywhere.

omg i am a PSYCHO when it comes to cleaning.we have a maid who comes in once a week, and then i normally do a huge clean on sunday afternoon... wipe and dust the whole house, load of laundry, dishes, wash floors, polish down water marks on our parquet flooring etc etc. i love sitting down to a clean home on a sunday evening, with the smell of fresh laundry and the knowledge that it will pretty much remain like that during the week :)

my boyfriend thought i was nuts initially, but now he loves it. and he pitches in with minimal nagging. The truth is that i would clean with or without his help - so when he doesnt i get him to buy me things. very feminist, i know.
