Oops never mind just saw the pictures comments in the original house call.

As a safety issue, I wouldn't put heavy framed pictures, fronted with glass, unsecured on a ledge right above my bed. You've also got the head of the bed right under a window. Seattle is in an earthquake zone!

Nice chair though, I like the materials you chose for it.

"Since he and his family are now spending most of their time in Miami, he decided to rent out this apartment to families on short-term visits to NYC. The open plan makes it flexible, and the outdoor screening room plus pool makes it an urban fantasy for a person of any age."

This makes me feel like we were all just suckered into clicking through a vacation rental brochure.

Why does the dining room open onto the bedroom? Shouldn't it be where the living room is now, next to the kitchen?

Re: the show home comments, I think that the apartment gives off a staged look more from the arrangement of the furniture. It's a good start, but some tweaks would make the living room feel more lived-in.

Is there room to rotate the sofa and have the long side act as a room divider from the kitchen? It would unblock the portion of the window now obscured by the chaise section, as well as create a more intimate seating area. The floor lamp directly in front of the window could be then moved aside to open the view. A couple of smaller side tables, in a new material, would be functional and add variety of texture to the space.

Those exterior corridors in the winter must be miserable. It's 1,200/sq. ft in the West Village, but you can do better for north of $6K a month. Heinous kitchen and bathroom as well.

The dėcor isn't unattractive, but if I hired a decorator I'd have a fit if they sourced Restoration Hardware.

Beautifully done. I'm really into the drama of it. How would it look with different colored trim around the door and medicine cabinet, perhaps a glossy coral or blue to match the birds?

I'd be interested in knowing about the developer's plans for the entire project. He mentioned 200 units in a building; would they all be more or less the same size studios? In that case, it might be more interesting to make the concept into something more hotel or dorm-like, with a 24 hour cafeteria/automat and convenience store in the building. That way they could reduce the kitchen facilities in each unit and provide more storage. Unless there's exterior ventilation, cooking in that small a space would be pretty overwhelming anyway.

Agreed, adorable pets!

Personally, I don't think that the renovations were appropriate to the original structure. Clean-lined modernism requires a high level of precision to look correct. The result here, stripped down with stark walls, just reveals the irregularities of the house. An example is the dead space under the gabled ceiling above the book shelf. It looks unfinished. Carefully placed moldings and a more-forgiving color than bright white could go a long way to making the house feel less bare.

Using Hermès boxes as décor also seems like an odd choice.

They say on their website that they deliver to your home, but that inquiries must be made in store. It doesn't look like you can buy online :(
