Whenever I get my rugs steam cleaned (that's not a euphemism for anything!), I also have my mattresses done. I don't actually know if it deep cleans down to dustmiteville, but works pretty well. How To Clean Your Mattress Real Simple |

I'm a writer, a book hoarder and a "rainbow order-er" and definitely NOT anti-book! I love my 500+ books, but when they're ordered by topic or author, the visual noise makes me batty. Organizing the Bookcase |

I was prepared to be grossed out by photo number 8, which looks like a dirty bear skin rug in thumbnail form. I started laughing when I clicked on it and found a sleepy dog! Matthew & Mikel's DIY Water+Works Remodel House Tour |

As a fellow Corgi owner, I feel your hair-covered pain. A minimum of twice a week Swiffering and vacuuming sessions are required, especially when you have dark espresso stained floors like we do. You could make a whole new dog with the amount of hair they shed! Oh, and we had the same Corona couch, which loves to hold on to dog hair. We recently replaced it with a leather couch, so we can wipe the fur off easily before we sit down. (I've left the house with fur-butt more times than I care to admit.) During the post-Christmas sale frenzy this past December, I found myself wandering the malls, "looking for good deals" and giving deep thought to questions like "should I get this black cashmere sweater with a tiny hole in it at a 70% discount? Or this black cashmere sweater with no hole in it at a 30% discount?" Never mind that I have 3 black cashmere sweaters at home already. To make a long story short, I realized what a habit shopping was and I was totally grossed out by my thoughtless consumerism. I recycle every last scrap of paper and plastic, but give no thought to all the impulse crap I buy on line or at sales etc. Lame. Speaking from the perspective of someone that had to deal with beige rental carpet for 15 years...honestly, it sucks. Yes, painting the walls, putting up art and putting down rugs helps, but I feel your pain, crappy carpet really does make everything look cheaper. The one time I moved lived in place with hardwood floors, I was amazed at how much nicer all my mid- century street finds looked! And then had to move into another rental carpet nightmare a few years later...*sigh* Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Can An Apartment Look Good With Beige Carpet?Los Angeles |
