I must say that, for me, Elfa is the way to go. We have it in a multitude of configurations and finishes, from our master closet, to the guest closet, to the guest library wall to our kitchen pantry (amazing!) and the garage. I know that I sound like an ad, but I would pay the price. Just watch for the sales and add pieces as you need more. Battle for the Best: Closet System Shopping Experience |

Great ideas. I've found that I have to set a "cut-off" time and simply complete whatever I'm doing and go with the flow from that time on. I can't tell you how many times I'm the only one at my party who hasn't showered or applied make-up because I was trying to "finish one more thing." 5 Things to Do in the Last 30 Minutes Before Your Guests Arrive |

I'm really taking #1 and 2 to heart. As a somewhat lifelong "messy" person, I am trying very hard to stay on top of keeping the house neat and the bed made. I can't tell you how much I annoy myself when I have to do a last minute pick-up around the house before my husband comes home or guests are coming over. I'm so embarrassed when someone drops in unexpectedly and things are not tidy. When thngs are neat, I feel so virtuous! 10 Simple Things to Make You Happier At Home |

I agree. As a life-long non-bed-maker (?) I have been trying to get back into the habit that my mother tried to install in me too many years ago to count. Although it has been only a month or so, I find that, on the few days that I don't make the bed, getting back into it at the end of the day is not as relaxing as when it is made. I love walking into my bedroom at the end of the evening to a neat bed and pulling that top cover back, it's almost like getting into clean sheets every day. Make Your Bed! Lovely kitchen. However, my only comment would be that it would have been nice to see more of a reference to the home's 1937 vintage with a modern twist than an all-out time warp. But, to each their own. Kitchen Before & After: From Dark & Dated to Light & Glamorous |

One of the tasks that may seem extravagant but brings a lot of joy to us is outsourcing the exterior Holiday light installation. We have a three-story house and the light guys hang lights on every story, then weeks later sneak in (like elves) to remove them and leave the box on our doorstep. I smile every time I drive up to my house through the holidays. 8 Services That Claim to Make Life Easier for Busy People Shopper's Guide |

I have found that Cooks Illustrated (magazine) has some very good ideas for kitchen essentials. They do reviews each issue to come up with what their test kitchen finds to work very well. Sometimes they have great finds which I have always found to be correct. They review foods, knives, pots and pans, everything - you can check in their archives for older reviews - give prices as well as often where to find the lesser-known products. I was really lusting for a Le Crueset dutch oven but refused to pay the high price. CI recommended a Lodge version for less than 1/4 of the cost and I couldn't be more pleased! I agree with the previous comments, but can see using a small bar sink simply to gain counter space. Depending on the cook, it might be an understandable trade-off if the sink is deep enough. The tile transition might have been acceptable if the floor tile was darker w/out such contrast. Maybe the wood floor could have just continued into the kitchen.
