I totally agree with the positive reviews for OurGroceries. It's simple and the ads are as unobtrusive as I could hope for with a free app. We have different lists for different grocery stores and it saves us a lot of time and hassle.

Your post inspired me to peel and eat the red grapefruit I brought to work! But I hear you on the splurge - it took me a while to get comfortable with the fact that I go to Costco weekly, for a family of two, and buy bags of pre-washed spinach, mushrooms, celery, broccoli, chicken broth, and Chobani yogurt. Yes, I could buy my own veggies and prep them, could make my own broth, and could put jam on my plain Greek yogurt. But I ultimately decided it was worth it to buy the more convenient foodstuffs in order to have it readily available for eating (instead of mac and cheese or chocolate snacks).

Lovely. I recently watched "Three Men and a Baby" and fell in love with their kitchen all over again.

Wop wop. Deli sandwich wraps for a lunch meeting. They're not bad, but we have them ALL THE TIME for lunch meetings because not many places deliver. I try to plan ahead and bring a lunch that could be subbed, but missed out today.

Thanks for the great ideas! We held the event this past weekend, and it was just great. We had pretzels, chunks of white baguette, and water for the palate cleansers, and made drunken mushrooms on polenta (with blue cheese on top), the Stone Ruination IPA Roasted Garlic Cheese soup, and a turkey-kale chili with cornbread. A guest also brought Guinnes chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. The cheese soup was awesome, and incredibly rich. It was great as a dip for pretzels later! We got lots of positive feedback on the food - thanks for the advice!

I love it, and have been investigating building benches in our eating area. But WOW am I surprised by the price! A non-encosed bench in one corner (2 sides) has been estimated at $2500. Built in benches, that include storage, have been estimated at twice that. Dream dashed. I would love to see the price breakdown of this lovely remodel.

Oh, and favorite brands? We have been buying Bota Box, but will certainly be looking for BHR. Bota Box does have a red blend that is pretty darn good.

I'm glad to see praises for box wine. In Alaska, we can't recycle glass (I know! But we have to ship it, and it's too heavy), so any alternatives to glass bottles are welcome in my home. We've been getting soda kegs of beer from our local brewhouses and buying box wine for a while. Perfectly good for most occasions.

Question about floating shelves - can you really load them up with books? I've always thought you needed those ugly wall-mounted tracks to run on each stud to not have the shelves bow. But this looks like plenty of books on shelving with no tracks! Thoughts? (I also live in a place where Ikea is not an option, unfortunately.) Thanks!

Hi - I love the taste, was easy to make, but this dish has given me and all my fellow diners really substantial gas! None of us have ever had this strong a reaction to lentils before (or any of the other ingredients); any suggestions for why, or how to reduce the effect? Thanks -

Beautiful house, for certain - but I wonder how a 2700 sf house fits with the "small space living" concept of AT?

Go for it - and the paneling, too. Although I know many are adverse to painting wood, I painted my orangey paneling a sage green (after a good TSP clean and two coats of primer) and also painted my (white) brick fireplace a dark charcoal. The result is one I'm always happy with. The grooves in the paneling lend a little eye interest. One note, though, that I was warned about with the brick: apparently paint is awful to remove from brick. Since mine was already white, the decision to paint was easier. Good luck!
