I would concur that the best bet would be to ceiling mount a track under the ledge/overhang. It presents a unique mantel for displaying art. There are a wide range of track systems available that would meet your needs. Curtain-Tracks.com is a great resource for this type hardware. The ball bearing carrier style tracks would likely be your best bet.

Here's a pretty cool idea for kids artwork...hang a long track and add sliding hooks with clips and small chain drops (you could also use fishing line). It allows you to arrange and rearrange the artwork across a whole wall without any pins, tape, tacks, or magnets, regardless of the size from small to poster size. The track just lays on "L" shaped screws. That way the wall isn't covered with anything other than the artwork and a narrow track along the ceiling.

We've tried it and it works great. My daughter loves it and is always adding new stuff as she creates it. We also gave her an archive folder where she can store old stuff that comes down to make room for the new.

I suggest thinking beyond just putting up curtains...there are a lot of ways you can transform off-the-shelf curtains into window treatments that offer a more dramatic look...accents, valences, cornices.

www.Curtain-Tracks.com offers a wide range of curtain tracks that are ideal to address the design challenge presented here. Both ceiling and wall mount tracks available, including flexible and pre-bent tracks. Great customer service as well.

In general, tracks up to 16 ft are available, but shipping tracks that are over 8 ft precludes them from being sent via UPS...therefore they must be shipped via freight carrier, which usually adds significantly to the cost, or picked up locally.

For the comment above regarding concrete ceiling, you can mount any tracks to them, just be sure to select your mounting concrete/masonry screws carefully as the heads may need to fit into the slot in the track (depends on track style as some tracks use brackets while others accept screws directly through the tracks) and you may need to use masonry anchors as well.

We did a great oval ceiling mounted track around a clawfoot tub. Got the hardware required at www.curtain-tracks.com.
