I love that this room is both happy AND sophisticated. It feels like this really could be someone's home: the shelves hold a collection that looks as if it's been gathered over years.

The space feels open & bright & it doesn't take iteself too seriously. It's a bit irreverant -- the pops of pink & orange are a fresh addition to the otherwise traditional color pallette of blues & white. And a confident woman definitely lives there. Very Elle Decor.

It looks SO ready for drinks!! (And I just wanted to add that I love the urn with the branches in it on the coffee table & a lot of us ppl out here do actually do extremely tall or large arrangements on coffee tables &/ or DR tables and then simply move them when we sit down with a group for dinner or drinks & appetizers at the coffee table. Really, it's just that easy. It's beautiful to keep the room this way when not in use & when ppl walk in it looks its best. Takes 2 seconds to relocate.)

I see no granny living in here and if so, she's the kind of granny i hope i'll be one day!

love some of these so much they do make me gasp!! I never tire of seeing some beautiful space in Alek's house & I'm loving the combination of beautiful woods in the second. I love the mismathced chairs & chandy over the table in the last pic. All are wonderful!!

oh my goodness - i'm crazy over that first image!! wow it's just so gorgeous!!!

also a couple of years ago we had a bunch of the waxy gourds from the grocery store & i kept them so long that they dried out like the ones in the pics & you can use them year after year. (haha some molded though so i guess you need a really dry space! :)

Now I just read through all of the comments and have to say I'm pretty new to Apartment Therapy but am SHOCKED at what some people said. This home is beautiful & personally I LOVE the textured neutral palette & coastal feel, but if you are someone who doesn't, you need to realize that we all have different styles/ opinions/ aesthetics. There's no right or wrong here and i just don't understand insulting a person's home. It's something they've worked really hard on & they've gone out an a big limb to share it with all of us. The least we can do is to be courteous.

I think it's amazing what Layla & Kevin did - it's inspiring & beautiful & just so relaxed & comfortable.

I just wish we could all be a bit more mindful of others on here.

Oh I absolutely love them and have busts in random shelves all over my house. In a house today I think they bring in a quirky factor that's just perfect!! They can also be a little haunting in a more serious setting. So many uses/ moods!

hahah according to other comments, maybe I just like creepy??? ;) but i love them.
