LOVE the outdoor one. Looks like it belongs in Nigel Slater's book, "Tender".

10 Breakfast Nooks Worth Second Looks

Cooked for a friend today that is recovering from back surgery. Made two recipes from Bon Appetit's February Issue-Spicy Pork Ragu (for my friend's husband to have over rigatoni), and a Quick Pomodoro (for my friend to have over ravioli, she hasn't had much of an appetite). Then a beef stew and some banana espresso chocolate chip muffins. I adore cooking for other people!

I've been craving chocolate sheet cake. And maybe some nachos made with Doritos. We're North of Boston, so, I want comfort food and lots of it.

I have the All Clad six quart slow cooker, but I do not have the insert that can be put on the stovetop. It costs about $175 and that was five years ago. It has a digital panel with low and high settings, both that automatically switch to warm when finished. Nothing has ever burned, which was a problem I had with crock pots of the past, especially Rival. I paid a lot of money, but it is an appliance I use often and that serves me well.

Nigel Slater. Anyone who can write a recipe and make it read like a story is awesome. As well as writing a recipe that includes a line such as, "let bubble merrily on the stove for 45 minutes." Ahhhhhhh.

We're still on the mend from the flu and my head cold, so, I think something spicy is in order. I have a wonderful recipe for a pizza spaghetti casserole that uses both spicy sausage and pepperoni. I need to make something with all of my bananas in the freezer. And maybe a cake for dessert. Now that all I've had is soup, I'm STARVING for really good food!

My Mother tops the list. Others are, a former boss (I worked at a B&B for 5 years), Christopher Kimball from ATK, Laurie Colwin, Ruth Reichl, Ina Garten, and Martha Stewart, Lynne Rosetto-Kasper, and the amazingly warm and wonderful Dorie Greenspan.

I always sear my stew meat before making beef stew. I've made it and not seared and it is pasty and grey looking if I don't, plus, the stew has a meatier flavor. And I don't think that's my imagination....

I have had a horrible cold this week, so, tomorrow, I'll make up for lost time. Making two different soups, a broccoli/veggie soup, and a chicken soup with little shells for me. I need to either make banana bread or muffins with all the bananas I have in the freezer. I'm also making the club roll from plain chicken for game day snacks. Hopefully the Patriots will lay the smack down on the Texans!

I used to work at a bed and breakfast. We would use French bread, slice it thick, and dip it in the milk mixture. Then, we'd put the dipped bread on waxed paper and let it sit for about half an hour. It made the best french toast!!!!!
