Scrolling down, I was a bit surprised to see the thickness of the cushion... I think it's a bit overkill, but otherwise I think the fabric and paint were a nice choice.

Before & After: A Wooden Bench Goes Bright
3/7/13 12:11 PM

A friend of mine is a WFH dad, but he gets up at 4 AM and works 5 hours before he takes over his dad duties when his wife goes off to work. He manages another 1-2 hours during nap time and maybe another hour at some point in the evening. Sometimes he can get a full 8 hours in, sometimes not. But he has a flexible job with an ability to work any hours he chooses.

A common misconception is that a "work from home" job means setting your own hours, with a motto of "just make sure you get your work done" and then the rest of the day is yours. The vast majority of WFH jobs are not like that.

jcmom and many of you are spot on. I have worked from home for about 1 1/2 years, and even though I consider myself blessed to have the flexibility of taking a quick shower mid-day or running my dog outside while microwaving my lunch, I am expected to be at my computer/on the phone (working) from 8 AM - 5 PM everyday -- because that is what my employer pays me for. If I'm not working, I don't get paid. Period. I don't even have children yet, and I have a really hard time imagining how I'd work around a newborn/toddler and remain consistently productive, day to day. Without outside help, I can't imagine it would be possible.

If a friend's place is CLEAN with minimal amounts of clutter (nothing wrong with a stack of mail on a console table, or a jacket over the back of a chair), then I don't really care what their design choices are. Not to say I don't judge, but it happens in silence. A family member or friend's design choices have no direct affect on me, unless (again) I'm forced to be somewhere that's dirty or smelly.

If you're inviting guests over, worry more about making sure the bathroom is clean and that there are comfortable places to sit, and less about whether you have too much art on the walls or whether someone is judging your choice of accent lighting.

@angie_marie - You must be living in the prairies of Nebraska for a decent-sized apartment or house that only costs $600/month! It would be literally impossible to have an OK apartment in a safe neighborhood in ANY major city for that price.

The whole point of AT is to either be inspired by what others can do OR live vicariously. Chill out, people. Stop being so sensitive about what you can and can't afford.

@Maxwell - Thanks for sharing this! Never heard of this company, nor could I ever afford to buy this. But it sure is pretty to look at!

This image is actually Ana White's, through her web site which has a hundred or more DIY furniture plans. Her site is addicting, and she's an absolute genius.

That's like saying since we've all seen a kitchen before, seeing the renovation of one wouldn't be interesting. Get off your high-horse dude.

Anyways... It'll be great to see the process of this - taking a bus that's in such decay and making it shine again will be a challenge with such a small crew. I'll definitely be following up on their Web site to see how the process goes. Thanks for sharing!

I have two of the glass bulbs with feathers on my tree and they're beautiful! I've seen them in many different shops, so they should be easy to find. I've gotten quite a few compliments on them from people who have come over to visit.

Stunning! I adore the hand-made look of everything in her home. Simple and warm, yet still light!

Any idea if there are DIY instructions out there to make those knitted poofs? Love them!

This should be added to the mix.

Bought this print from a local NW artist - Jill Bliss. Gorgeous, and frames easily (and cheaply)!

First thought is that you desperately need a new shower curtain. I have an even smaller bathroom, with the same black-checkered floor (and black-checkered tile on the walls!) and bought this gorgeous, light curtain for the bath:

I absolutely LOVE it, and it's extremely sturdy. The hooks that come with it are beautiful too. You don't want something dark, but the BROWN really ads a lot to a space, especially with a "mint green" base.

A dark brown picture frame, with something colorful inside, on the wall next to the window might be just what you need for a neutral punch! You could also do small, dark brown shelves for the corner, so other colorful items could be displayed.

:) Good luck!

Perfect. I agree with many above: do not change a thing.

The green in the chairs match the backsplash, and the yellow/gold in the rug matches the chair in the corner.

This current arrangement looks effortless and inviting -- I want that kitchen! If you change the rug to something more neutral and "matchy", then it will look like you tried too hard.

As is. Love it!

I think the sink is beautiful, particularly with the slate gray. I think the wood work table as a counter tops it off, though.

Ideal for a powder room, I think. Then practicality of storage wouldn't be an issue.
