I have enjoyed every submission that made it to the finals. All of them except for these shelves. They just do absolutely nothing for me. If these shelves win over the competition, then I guess this guy's buddies like to vote... must have posted on every message board he's ever been on to get the votes. Painfully obvious in the preliminaries. Cheap looking, i dont think they'd withstand weight of many books with two mounting points, and if they were shipped to your door they would probably come in a box of 1x1 sticks with some screws for you to assemble yourself... I can go to the lumberyard and buy that myself.

The NOMAD lamp isn't exactly my style either, but I could own one. Pricey, as was everything else in this competition, but I can dig it. It's got a clean look, not overly.. "hey look at me!!" (which I like in a lamp.) Recycled materials is always a bonus...

NOMAD gets the vote.

While i'm not crazy about either design, im much more in tune with the hello shelving than the soft map.
I do like the versitility of the hello's, it's got all the right things going for it. Pricey, yes, but using enviro-friendly materials is a big plus. Probably one of my biggest fears/concerns/questions is if someone were to set something particularly heavy on one if used as a table, is it going to stand up over time or break at the joint.

The soft maps are beautiful pieces of ART. Quilts, especially hand quilted, can be both beautiful and functional. But quite tedious and IMO, a quilt is something that's passed from generation to generation. I have several dozen quilts that were made by my grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, that most I wouldnt dare dream of using. To me the functionality of the map quilt just isn't there. Beautiful, however.
Hello shelves gets the vote.

I dig the shelves. Sure, it's simple.. it could be made for less, the allthread could have -- something -- I dont know, different.. it's rough but I still like it. There seems to be a ton of thought that went into it's simplicity.
The rug is killer as well, and if i had the choice between the redeploy rug and that other wall mounted shelf submission, the rug, absolutely! But the shelves win my vote here.

Are you kidding me? how would this thing be shipped? In a thousand pieces to assemble? Maybe i'm totally missing the point but it looks like a bunch of screwed together 1x1 with MDF for the shelving. Would this be available in different lengths, or just hold your breath that whoever built your house/apartment/condo/mud shack actually got the rough in right so you actually have a stud to screw into. With that much weight and only two points to screw into the wall you certainly couldnt go with a zipit/molly/toggle/whatever your choice as it would peel right through the drywall.
Looks like something one could do in middle school wood shop with about 30 bucks in pine and some stain from Home Depot.
