I'm sort of freaking out, because the similarities between your apartment and mine in Miami are semi-eerie. Colorwise, furniture-wise, and view-wise...

You have excellent taste. ; )

I live on Miami Beach, on the water, and have a great cross-breeze. I refuse to live without my air conditioner.

During the winter I can go a month without turning it on. But between now-ish to late November, I will happily run the a/c, 24/7, and I will happily pay triple my winter electric bill to Florida Power & Light.

I'd rather be dry, cool, and happy, than sweaty, suicidal, and "green." Summer in Miami (including the Beach) is effing miserable. I'm on the top floor with a Northwestern exposure, and Biscayne bay reflecting the sun into my place, and it can can get up to 90 degrees, with the shades drawn in three hours. The doors warp, everything stinks and sticks, and like someone else said, mold starts to grow.

No. Thanks.

Shows how long it's been since I've been home, and ridden the train - I know the purple line connects Silver Spring with...something... (White Flint?) but I've never seen purple on a Metro Map.

Oh, but I had always wanted to steal a map from the trains, for what it's worth.

"Original" as in from the Metro, and not a reproduction, right?

Not "original" as in the map of the first lines. Green and Yellow were opened within the last fifteen years...

I have it on good authority that my Local Plumbing Inspector not only reads Apartment Therapy, but scours the site to look for plumbing violations possibly committed in pictures on the site.

I grew up in the silent suburbs of Columbia, MD, where the loudest noise around was a Camry whooshing up the street. I now live on South Beach, over a causeway with a bus-stop in front of my bedroom, jet skis that race by, sirens, trucks, souped-up Hondas, motorcycles...

In the morning, the garbage trucks crash and bang and make backing up sounds.

I sleep with a fan on and a white noise maker. It helps a little. But I still haven't gotten a good night's sleep since I bought my place... almost 3 years ago.

@ mjr - If I could have afforded to buy on Belle Island, I'd bypass the three-extra block walk to the Beach, by jumping off the seawall into the Bay as a tradeoff. ; ) As it is, I bike to the beach all the time turning a 20-minute walk down Lincoln, to an exciting 5-minute pedestrian dodge session.

@ Cliokitty - You guys have an occasional barking dog in that building (I go to acupuncture there!) that I want to b-b-gun out of its misery. That said, I don't think I'd live here unless I lived on the Beach... I love living here, except when the characters make prolonged noise in my place when I'm dying of a hangover... speaking of, get ready for the Marathon this weekend! People start banging on pots and pans and cheering the runners at 17th and Purdy at like 6:30 a.m...

Dealing With Secondary Deal Breakers | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles

My dealbreakers, which I discovered only after buying my place are as follows:

1) Having insane neighbors in the building;
2) The sound of the buses running up and down the Venetian Causeway from 5:00 a.m. - Midnight, with its stop directly in front of my balcony doors in my bedroom (even though I'm 7 stories up);
3) The stoplight that they installed at the bus-stop between when I put in my contract, and when I closed on the condo.

On the plus side, I have a permanently unobstructable view of Biscayne Bay and the Biscayne corridor on the Mainland... so I guess that makes up for it.

I usually live in a hellhole until the threat of someone coming over becomes imminent.

Then, I spend an hour and a half shoving things in closets and wiping down surfaces and stacking papers and receipts and clearing off clothes and running the effing Scooba, all while sweating profusely. By the time the person comes over, and my place is glowing, I'm too exhausted from my mini-binge, to want them there anymore... and I'm resenting the pile of unfolded laundry hiding in the closet.

I'm also guilty of one or two other things listed above.

I'd go for a deep-blue rug and a round teak mid-century coffee table. Gables? South Miami? Belle Meade? Great house you have there!

TBP - Srsly? Awww. You know how I write!

Brewer Patriot is correct: the Containers are also a good time. Once I watched a naked chick pour Elmer's Glue all over herself at the Containers - It was "performance art."

And I'll echo Cindy re: Art Miami... it was my least favorite (besides Red Dot) but it is the biggest satellite fair, so there's probably something you'll like at Art Miami - there were a couple pieces there last year I fell in love with - and it had the best VIP section.

Basel is the Namesake, but it can be overwhelming and annoyingly crowded. It's also pricey to get into.

ArtMiami is solidly good, and big, with lots of variety.

Design Miami is a rip-off.

PhotoMiami is awesome, Red Dot is skippable...

Scope, Pulse and Nada are also highly recommended. Pace yourself, and remember that the best cure for a hangover is a beer... or three.

I don't really like it. It's like the color scheme for the new cars on the DC Metro... minus the black.

Not really doin' it for me; it looks really messy and, while that's apparently the intent, I'm not a fan.

This place is amazing. I wanted to live in the store. Also phenomenal and in Baltimore is Oakenshawe in Hampden (which is also...not cheap.)
