A great idea for a placemat in public when you would definitely NOT want your kids to pick up and eat food they spilled:

I actually made that caddy in the left picture from a McCall's pattern. And I did hang it from the bed until the baby could reach (we don't have a changing table). I really liked it and it's waiting in storage for baby #3 this summer. Once the baby gets a little bigger this can't hold a ton of diapers, but like I said, I moved them when my kiddos could rach and just started using a drawer in the dresser (which I still use for my 2 year old).

I would love to be a household where minimal TV is watched, but my husband is a sports fanatic and I doubt he's ever going to lose that. :(

I also have seen much worse than we have, but I think we have too many toys - and my oldest isn't even 4 yet. We've been putting a lot of toys in "toy time out" lately because my boys won't pick them up. It has been so nice to have less toys around (although I'd like my closet space back!) and they have actually been playing with toys they don't normally touch.
In our neighborhood a friend of mine has set up a toy swap where moms can bring in toys that don't get used much and trade with another mom. Whatever no one goes home with gets donated.

I've done this for granola mixes. I add everything but the wet stuff. It's so nice to have a supply nearly ready to go instead of starting over from scratch.
