I completely agree with Lady J. This is just like Conde Nast -- they have done the same thing with old Gourmet content, recycled articles published as if the content is new. Sure they own the creative content but loyal supporters of the original magazines and staff shouldn't be fooled.

I have a similar situation in my house.
1. Get rid of the chair. It is too big and doesn't work with the cleaner lines of the sofa and the mid-century coffee table.
2. Put a small Parsons table with a lamp and a tray on the staircase wall for mail, keys etc. Hang a mirror or some art above it. This creates a little entry area where none really exists.
3. Under the table put a tray for shoes.
4. Get rid of the bookcase and have a carpenter build a bookshelf/cabinet across the entire wall where the TV currently sits to organize all your electronics, books, DVDs etc. Keep the lines simple, like the Expedit references from earlier posts. Consider a two tiered approach to the cabinet/shelves so it doesn't seem so massive when you enter -- lower 1/3 section, 20" deep, upper 2/3 section, 12" deep.
5. Once you have the new built-in, do not cram it with books etc. (a la your current bookcase), add some art and ceramics and let the space breathe.
6. Hang some art on either side of the window.
7. Add an area rug.

I recently bought a fabulous Baker swivel rocker for our bedroom. My husband thought it was a waste of $ since we already had an armchair (a cast-off from his mother). But, the original armchair wasn't comfortable and so it became a clothes repository. Now with the new fab chair -- we actually use it -- both of us! And because we do, the clothes miraculously get put away.

How about something similar to the light blue of the chair?

HB and another vote for Country Living -- but nothing matches my love of Domino.
Stupid Conde Nast. And today they killed Gourmet.

I'm so happy to see this online pub. I think it is a smart buy for advertisers because the access for consumers is immediate. And the design aesthetic certainly channels the Domino spirit. The tactile experience of print is missed -- I do like to sit in my favorite chair and have a glass of wine and linger over the images but, I definitely see the virtues of online and applaud these folks for getting Lonny off the ground.
Let's make this successful, shall we?

Agree with all the library comments. i thought the same. It's too bad more wasn't done to bring the essence of the structure to the interior design.

Images 8 and 9 are inspired by the schoolhouse but are not as much of it as all the other images are. Like the difference between the woman wearing the clothes and the clothes wearing the woman.

I would paint the bricks white, add a chunky mantel, also painted white and then paint the wall a charcoal gray. If you can afford it, think about adding built in bookcases (white) on both sides of the fireplace and paint the back portion the same charcoal gray as reco'd for the wall.

It looks like should should look at warm, rather than cool colors -- think spicy -- cumin, curry, paprika.

20 years ago, my husband and I purchased Bauhaus dinnerware from Crate and Barrel, now re-issued as the modern dinnerware shown here. At first Bauhaus was our only set of dishes. Over the years we have collected many more sets in many different styles but this design has stood the test of time.

Lovely, lovely home.
So personal and creative.
And the architectural style of the house is so beautiful I would never have noticed the aluminum siding.

It never crossed my mind to display my Le Creuset to show them off. Yes, they are lovely pieces but, these images veer between silly (how can you use the stovetop with such a display) to vulgar (how many dutch ovens does it take to make risotto?).
