I don't understand why people get so upset about monitors, iPad or screens. At the end of long days in the office 80 years ago I'd be willing to bet a lot that people were tired and rubbing their eyes and massaging their heads. Working all day with your brain as your main tool will make you feel like you just gave your brain a big workout, cause you did. Same as at the end of a day of work hammering nails you'd be rubbing your arms and shoulders and feeling tired.

That said I rarely read outside on a sunny day, if I'm out and about on a nice sunny day I'm not often sitting around reading a book. Book reading is something I'm much more likely to do at 11 pm in bed, are a lot of people actually sitting outside reading all day long on beautiful sunny days?

Every time I see drops in hard drive space cost I smile. It is a wonderful thing. And internal 2T is pushing its way down to the $100 mark makes me very happy.

I want 2 amazingly good knives. So I can have one at the sharpener all the time. Of course I don't know where one is near me and I bus so I have 1 knife and it isn't great. :(

I've played a lot with the idea of a mandolin. But there is this little voice in my head telling me "if you just had sharper knives it wouldn't matter".

Look to see if your camera has a macro setting and use that. It makes up close shots look so much better. You should be able to dig up your manual online (GO WEB GO!) and do a search for "macro" and see what you come up with.

If it comes without ads then it is like renting the tvshows/movies. But if it still has ads then I'm going to have to hope it is a very minor amount like $6 a year or something. Ads revenue makes me a sad cookie. I'm happy to pay for stuff but then don't bog me down with ads. I'm paying in part so I don't have to waste time on those ads.

I had this issue, one of the things I did was make sure that all the food was easily reachable. I had a weird pantry that was deep but you couldn't access the whole thing so I got a rolling cart for the space so I could pull it out and easily see what I had. I put nonfood stuffs in the back and these 2 things make it so my rotation is better. Not perfect but better.

Also I keep my noneating foodstuffs where they should be. Things that are really for dying yarn go with the yarn. (Because stocking up on speciality koolaid when you can is crucial!)

Take them off. It is weird and strange and feels very "look what I bought" to leave it on. But I am biased I rarely wear anything or buy anything that advertises itself or its brand.

Don't waste money on something with a plastic handle it might look great now but it'll just aggravate you later when you are really wanting to put something in the oven and can't.

I agree with others who say skip a set. I know it has a strong appeal and feels like an adult thing to pick up when you are in college. I remember succumbing to that feeling and I have nothing from that set anymore. The above recommendations about what specifics to get are great. You'll love it when you still have some of these pieces years from now and they'll be just as loved then as they are now.

Any developer who can create a Windows program can create a Windows program.

These are all (it sounds) running full OSs and not something closed like the apple tablet will be running. So if you can create a program that can run on your PC (or on your boot camped Windows 7) then it can run on the 7 tablets. If you can create it to run on the Android OS then it can run on the Android machines.

This just goes to show me that if nothing else Apple has changed the way people talk about computers. Not just phones with the whole iPhone OS. It seems that people are now thinking about it from a closed ecosystem perspective rather than a regular OS ecosystem. This is fascinating.

If you are going to use a good seam ripper be REALLY careful. I suggested this once because I do it. But apparently the person I suggested it to while bright didn't think it thru and promptly ripped a giant boob hole into her favorite shirt.

Think first then use tools.

This is a good reminder that little things can make a big difference. And while I may know how to sew a button I have had friends who didn't. And if someone doesn't write these things in the first place there will be nothing to google. Or worse if no one writes a lot of these things you'll end up with things you really don't want to see popping up as the top responses in google searches.

Some of these are really nice though looking at them made me realize that yes I do have a problem with asymetry and that I really should accept it and be ok with it because even when I can look and think that something is done well it still makes the hair go up on the back of my neck.

I love the easel and if I was unhappy with my tv situation it would be the first thing I'd do.

I used to keep a bunch of wine in a rack in the pantry but I had a few issues.
1. I keep my apartment to hot. Especially in the summer but in the winter too. I grew up a wood stove girl I can't break it. But it is really warm and there is no "cool space" for storing.
2. There are always bottles that don't get used. For me things that were out of eye or arm range just didn't place my hand on as much. So the bottom rack? Never changed. This got bad esp when combined with #1.
3. Somehow even when I had them I'd still go out to pick up a special bottle when making a special meal.

So I fought with myself and finally decided I don't store wine at all. I do store other booze. Lots of it. But not wine.

This blows on Sundays (stupid blue laws) but all the rest of the time it works better. And I don't have any more "perfect special bottles" that turned to bad vinegar. :(

That said an free standing wine rack (got mine at goodwill for like $7) makes a fantastic mitten/hat/headband/gator storage system!

Good thermoses can hold the heat for hours and hours. I've had hot soup for lunch from one. I've been packing myself steel cut oats for brunch (theoretically it is for breakfast but a lot of days I don't get to crack the thermos for hours) since a few great posts this winter here about them. I just pour in the boiling water and by the time I get around to eating it they are great.

I love oddly the Ikea lunchboxes. They are great for salad and then they have a little side container that you could put dressing in. Or sandwich with a little bitty salad or carrot sticks etc. They are great and just the right shape and size for me. Never had one leak so definitely recommend.

Yeah how do we know what the rent/mortgage is cause that feels really crucial.

And I was a little confused about the getting around vs travel. Cause Travel says it includes mass transit and getting around doesn't but hey not all of us own cars. (Yes really.) But it does make me feel better about my decision to dump my car :)

Some people might not like this but the TJMaxxes around here have great selections of Cast Iron sometimes. It is hit or miss but I finally found something that is small enough to cook for 1 or 2 and it is the perfect thing for me.

They nearly always have some Le Cruset and Lodge and other brands from time to time.
