When multiple people, including the listing agent, warns you that the downstairs neighbor is crazy.

Listen to them.

Love the third photo! So organized! Except how they left their bed in the middle of the 'closet' floor.

I don't know anyone who has a whole room for their clothes. Using these kinds of photos as 'inspiration' for a post about organization is a little tough to swallow.

Agreed, I want to see more. This house is SO not my style, but it's beautiful.

We did this for our first cat, spent a small fortune on a cat tree, a bed, scratching posts, and toys. She ignored them all except for the tree, which became a sleeping perch, and proceeded to eat several boot laces prompting a panicked call to the vet.

Our solution was to get a second cat, who instantly started using the cardboard claw scratchers, sleeping in the cat bed, and stashes toy mice in our shoes. Perhaps not the wisest 'solution', but one which worked out in the end.

So much dislike!

It isn't a sterile, impersonal interior. I love it. Tons of character, great use of color. This apartment has an incredible feel to it.

Fertilizer is your, and your orchids, friend in terms of re-blooming. They like a gently orchid fertilizer, about once a week, just a dab in with the water.

These posts are pretty hilarious... presumably most readers of a design blog are grownups. No offense to the writer, but who needs a guide to 'how to sleep together'??

Sleeping with another human involves body stuff, up to and including - farting, snoring, kicking, drooling, bad breathe, and the potential for morning-after-regret.

Accept your partner for all their idiosyncrasies, and they'll hopefully do the same for you.

Not my story, but the house next door to my parent's was sold... to a woman who purchased it as housing for her son in his first year at the local college. He planned on having several roommates.

The mom went door to door, giving everyone within a few house radius her cell phone number with instructions Absolutely To contact her if there were any problems at all. Parties. Noise. Etc.

Awesome. Neighbor.

formosagirl - The Tenderloin is an area of San Francisco located near downtown, with many lower-income and SRO apartment buildings. For many years it's been an area with a high crime rate and a number of homeless or druggie residents.

This is only one face of the neighborhood, other facets include a thriving inner city life, diverse ethnic groups, social services to aid people in need, and a growing movement within the area to provide a safer space for the not-insignificant number of families and children living in the neighborhood.

Jason, your home is lovely, and I wish you much enjoyment of the space.

Absolutely wonderful renovation. Kept the feeling of the building while updating perfectly, the skylights are fantastic. I'm completely envious of your wood burning oven in the kitchen. The whole kitchen is great, actually.

Thank you for not painting over all that beautiful wood. This home is proof again that keeping original wood doesn't have to create a dark interior!

Blarg is right, it's kokedama. Here's another link to a place which talks about the correct soil to use. It's more of a clay that you mix and then cover with moss to retain the moisture.

Absolutely beautiful, it's like stepping back in time and adding modern conveniences. I cannot thank you enough for restoring all of that beautiful wood and not painting it over!

Ditto the tips on stocking the fridge with beer. Nothing says 'Thank you for helping me move' like a nice, cold beer.

I've moved way too many times, and break it down like this - I start packing a week before. Invest in a huge black sharpie to label boxes with. Hire movers if you can, enlist the help of more dependable people than you think you will need (some will flake, others will show up late, and some will only want to help for an hour or two) if you cannot hire movers.

Have one car set aside for plants, computers, pets, and a suitcase full of clothing/toiletries (inc. toilet paper, towels, ect.) and bedding for your first night in the new place. On your way to the new place, have someone pick up beer, soda, order pizzas. That way anything super important is all in one place for the first evening/day.

I'm a pre-packer, but I never get around to actually getting rid of everything I intend to.

To the person wondering how else to pack clothes - I use clothing to wrap dishes and glassware in. Saves finding newspaper (which then has to be discarded), and moves your extra socks and shirts at the same time.

Of course, don't forget to pack yourself a suitcase of essential items - a few days worth of comfy clothes/work clothes, and your basic toiletries, a book, and any comfort items you include - candles, bottle of whisky. ; )

Furminator Dyson deep cleaning from a service once in a great while (It's a huge pain in the ass). You'll still need to do another final clean before your landlord does a walk-through but it'll help.

Dyson's are expensive but I've never purchased an appliance I felt was so worth the cost. I'd also check out the other brand someone suggested. If you have pets, a good vacuum is worth it's weight in gold.

Why do people have to have cats? Seriously? Might as well ask why people have to be snarky on the internet.

What a great idea! I'd be a little worried to do this myself, living in earthquake territory, but it's super cute and fun.

To the people who insist that all spices be re-packaged... um... not very green perhaps? They do come in jars perfectly adequate for the task of storing. Why go out and spend more money just to have a matching set?

When I see a lovely house tour like this, I'm thankful that I am not out there competing against everyone who's into the mid century thing at the flea market.

Lovely use of color in this home.

Low light gardens? Think ferns, ficus trees, leafy green plants usually do well in lower light situations.

You can't grow succulents, but plenty of plants love less light.
