FIRE HAZARD. You should NOT be reccommending this. I have watched a swiffer dusting sheet go up in flames because it got to near (not on) a halogen light fixture. Light fixtures pass safety tests based on the way the fixture is supposed to be installed, and you should not be suggesting these dangerous modifications.

Vancouver's Lions Gate Bridge used to be green and International Orange, and they changed the colours when they repaired the bridge. Now it is green and silver, not anywhere near as nice. I miss the International Orange.

My friend had a pink bathroom, and they used Dial soap. Looking back, I know that bathroom was very basic, but the smell of it and the total pinkness- pink toilet, sinks, and tub, pink mosaic tile seemed so luxurious to me. I'm sure my thrifty mother had us using leftover motel soap, or some bargain brand that didn't smell of much at all.

I found eyeglasses at Winners, a discount store here. They are readers, with built in LED lights on the frames. You turn on the switches for the lights, and wherever you are looking is lit up. They work great, and don't disturb my husband, other than the fact that I look like a weirdo wearing them.

This idea worries me. If you put a toddler in a bed not designed for that age group, the gaps in the decorative metal or woodwork can trap their head, or the gap between the bed and the wall, and they could strangle. My friend's daughter died this way. Putting the mattress on the floor while the child transitions between a crib and a regular bed is much safer. Safety is much more important that having a more stylish rail for the bed.

Why can't I see this video. If I click on it, up pops last week's video. There is no "play" arrow on this one.

The best gift we got was a friend taking photos of move-in day. He gave us prints a few weeks later, and it was nice to have a picture of our family sitting on the front steps of our new house. They are also good "before" pictures.
I like to take over a picnic lunch on move-in day, nice bread, buns, deli meat, sliced cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, onions, etc., and some cold drinks and ice, paper plates, and a garbage bag. It has been appreciated.

I love the light fixture. if you look at the close-up you will see the bulbs are half-silvered, so they give an indirect, softer light. Because there are so many bulbs, they will be low wattage, contributing to a softer lighting effect.

Thanks for your detailed pictures. Now I can see how I could add the same thing or under cabinet lights, without having them wired in by an electrician.

When we first got a microwave in 1975, my Dad, a power engineer, brought home a Geiger counter to measure radiation from the microwave. None from the microwave, but plenty from the glow-in-the -dark hands on the clock in their bedroom.

In our old house, I found a child's signature in felt pen inside the kitchen broom closet. I let the signature bleed through the new coat of paint I put on the closet, as it was the signature of the previous owners' daughter, who had died- our friendly little ghost.

Step A- Turn off the power
Step B- Use a suction cup to turn the bulb. It should then come out easily.
Step C- if the glass pops off the bulb, like happened to us, use needlenose pliers to grip the edge of the bulb and turn it. Then it should come out easily. The halogen bulbs have two prongs on the end, so they don't need much unscrewing(like a regular bulb).

I looked at my watch to check the time while painting, and dumped a litre of oil-base paint on the carpet. Had to rip out the carpet.
I thought wood trim would look nice around the part walls in between our living and dining room. I didn't know you should put wood on all the edges, so the nice straight edges of the wood butt up against each other. instead, I started filling with caulking to fill in the gaps in the drywall corners to match the straight edges of the wood. There are about 3 tubes worth of caulking in those edges. We have since moved, and should have left no forwarding address in case someone tries to remove that trim someday.

Someone commented on the -home- flikr group that they are using oilcloth to line shelves. I believe that is green, and someone else is using cork to line their kitchen drawers.
I'm from Vancouver, and someone checked "my" book out of the library, but i've done a little curing last fall, and the deep treatment this spring. I still have a repairs list and project list form last spring, but have made good headway over the summer, and am continuing to tackle those items, as well as additional ones we found with a new "home survey" we did last week.
Last cure we made amazing progress, and are doing well this time, too. Fixing and changing the little things makes such a huge change in our lives. Last fall, I came up with a new floor plan fro the family room, bought couches, and as we were all happily sitting on our new family room last night, was reflecting on the fact that the cure was what made the couches and floorplan a priority.

"r" and "f" and "4" and "2".
are red, "a" is blue, "e" is yellow, "gray" is a cool gray, and "grey" is a warm grey. "3" is green. '1" is blue.
Canadian postal codes with their mix of letters and numbers really screw me up if there are 2's, 4's, r's and f's in them.
The other letters and numbers don't have colours for me.

1. Any decor treatment that will be a colossal pain to remove or paint over, like the genius who advised using beeswax over a sponged paint treatment, or people who texturize the walls, or venetian plaster. How the heck will you remove that in 3 years when it's no longer in style?
2. Words as decor, especially long quotes on walls, and those cut-out words.
3. Tole Painting, and the people who teach other people to do it.
4. Mattress manufacturers who now build new mattresses super high. Bedside table makers have not caught up.
5. Flat screen TVs over fireplaces. What a wiring nightmare when anything needs connecting or disconnecting! Not to mention, your sensitive expensive electronics getting fried over the fireplace.
6. Decorative buttons on pillows. Ouch!
7. TV credenzas that won't hold the weight of a TV. (Ikea)
8. Bookshelves that aren't deep enough to contain most books.
9. Bookshelves that aren't sturdy enough to hold books without the shelves bowing in the middle.
10. Sofa fabric that isn't washable. How have sofa manufacturers found the only fabric in the world that you can't wash or dryclean?
11. Kids decor items in red, yellow, blue combo, and the alphabet as decor for kids, and that fake backward kid writing.
