Love the last picture. I'm surprised how well orange is going with taupe and khaki. I don't like tangerine tango, so I'm glad they used orange rather than that :)

I've expressed my opinion on the main page (Apartment Therapy) already, immediately after the change. I really appreciate the larger pictures, the larger fonts, the cleaner look. Best of all, the site has become very, very fast. And after some time now I love it even more! Very well done!

But I may have found a bug today, or you know it already. After doing a search (here 'finger food') and clicking on one of the links in the search results, I cannot see the comments on that thread. Which is a pity because in the comments is what I've been looking for.

E.g. this thread http://www.thekitchn.com/good-question-w-1-6353
It says 36 comments but I can see one only and I don't know how to get to the rest. Any idea?

I've never before heard anything negative about drinking water. And if so, I wouldn't have listened. I cannot imagine having a meal without water. Makes me think of suffocation.

Yes, tap water always plus sparkling water, if somebody wants some. Very cold, sometimes with lemon slices. I'm thirsty now...

In the fridge: medical salves and gels, homoeopathic drugs, especially those in gelatin capsules. Batteries, film, sun lotions, plant seeds. Sometimes seeds mixed with damp soil for stratification. In summer in the freezer small wet towels for refreshment.

OK, my 5 cents:

Really love the larger photos and the new larger font (but not so the TNR). It's more airy now. It's good to have Ohdeedoh, Unplugged and Re-nest worked into the main site but it's a pity to lose their names.

I understand that The Kitchn is separated but there really should be a tab for it on the top and on the bottom. A tab that leads to the main kitchn page and not to some random post in between (and vice versa when being on the kitchn site).

As others said before, the MAIN should be where all posts come in. Absolutely. (For this I even put up with the Scavenger although being completely useless, if you're in Germany)

And, as somebody else has said before, while you're at it, why not open house tours or any other categories in a new browser window? I never click on old house tours because I don't know how to get back properly to where I was.

But the best of all - your site has become really fast now! The slow page loading was a bit annoying. Compliments and thank you for this major improvement!!

@ AILEENJ - Totally agree with you on quality wallpaper and especially on texture.

But I strongly disagree on getting an expert consultation in a brick & mortar store but then making the deal with an online shop because it's cheaper. That's simply not fair. That's what the small shops already suffered from in pre-internet times when losing customers this way to the upcoming big stores. See what happened to them. They are all gone.

And taking into account on what the online shop saves (rental, furnishings, staff etc.) it should be even more cheaper.

I cannot recommend taping the window with painter's or any other tape. At least not for more than a few days.

I did this once just to get an idea of how adding lattice to the windows would look like. Loved the tape so much that I left it in place.

First of all you'll have a problem cleaning the window. After some time the light/ sun/ heat will start to split the tape with the paper or film rolling down and the glue staying on the window pane where it hardens and becomes really ugly.

When you finally have enough of it all, you'll have fun removing all the icky glue.

There is something like glass polish available. It's used to get rid of deposits on car front shields.

I've got that from my car dealer and it was the only way deep clean my new windows without scratching them.

So why is it then that IKEA tea candles only burn to the half if placed outside in a lantern in winter? Inside the house these were fine but in the (very) cold they stopped burning half finished.

Yes, it's really beautiful! But what is so unusual to floating cabinets? I've done those in offices already 20 years ago and thought this to be a standard way to make a space more airy.

I used IKEA kitchen wall cabinets because these have a perfect depth for papers and forms and you have a good choice of doors (or just leave them off). Adding lots of additional shelves gives you plenty of space for organizing all kind of paper.

Topped with a nice board these also have the perfect depth for most scanners, printers etc.

Till now I haven't seen anything other than the large standard black rectangles. Although being a huge fan of using solar energy those black slabs can look quite horrible - designwise.

This here looks like a nice alternative, especially in the last photo. Although prices and efficiency have to be well compared.

I would prefer to wash the jars every now and then.

BUT - when I had all my drill bits in a jar the glass broke after dropping in a drill too hard. A piece of felt would have avoided this.

These are all beautiful and I'd always prefer shutters to curtains but - smell and grime will stay the same and it's much easier to throw some curtains into the washing machine than to clean shutters, isn't it?

Homemade Sauerkraut: A Century-Old Family Tradition

I've never done it myself but my grandmother did it every year. It always was some kind of neighbourhood-affair. I remember well all the women working together for several days, shredding all the cabbage on this huge cutter above an even larger trough.

The recipe was the same as yours except my grandma added juniper berries (?? Wacholderbeeren).

It was the best sauerkraut ever, no comparison to the shop bought stuff. Unfortunately, my cellar isn't cold enough.
