Forgot to add that the 'Markus' has a very high back which most people will love. But it's difficult to lean against the back if you have a hair up-do! :-)

10 Best Task Chairs For Nearly Any Budget

Two weeks ago I tested office chairs at Ikea. I expected to find the same useless chairs they had 15 years ago.

To my big surprise they had two office chairs for professional use: the 'Volmar' at $ 239 and the 'Markus' at $ 199. Both the chairs come with a limited warranty of 10 years.

I was even more surprised to find the cheaper 'Markus' being much more comfortable than the 'Volmar'. 'Markus' has a significantly deeper and wider seat and better armrests. I did not like the fabrics, but the leather/ man-made leather combination was fine and is easier to clean, too.

We bought some 'Markus' chairs for the company and the staff (90% guys) love them!

BTW, did you realize how differently most men and women take possession of an office chair? Men immediately try to swing as much as a chair allows. The more to the horizontal the better :-). Women turn off the swing function and try to find a suitable seat height first. Ha ha!

Most often a garden is a highly emotional affair. As a garden designer it's your job first to identify your client's actual needs and wishes and then to design a garden along those lines in accordance with the surrounding landscape, the building, the budget etc. It's not your job to impose your personal preferences on your client, regardless how trendy your preferences are.

The traditional German Adventskranz looked like this
A horizontal hanging wreath tied with red ribbons to a special red wooden stand. There had to be four red short candles on it (those in the picture definitely are too long and dangerous!).

My grandmother made our Adventskranz when I was a child. In the late afternoon we were sitting in her kitchen around the table with this wreath. My aunt read stories out of a special Christmas book, my grandmother peeled apples and cracked nuts for the kids. On the first Sunday in Advent we wrote our lists of wishes which we put out on the window sill where a helping angel picked them up during the night. Sometimes in Advent an uncle who was a pastry chef dropped in and we made marzipan snowmen with chocolate hats.

For us kids the advent season was the most exciting time of the year. For me it is inseparably connected to this kind of advent wreath.

Not from Etsy but made by a family-run German company: Sigikid Beasts in Town
These are of high quality (comparable to Steiff) but their characters are very unusual. Beasts in Town are meant for adults rather than for kids (I guess) :-)

(No, I don't get paid by Sigikid. Unfortunately.)

Love this colour - from your photo. On Sherwin Williams' website it's a bright mint - which I do not like.

hansgrohe is a worldwide operating, traditional German manufacturer well known for innovative technics and designs and for excellent quality. Axor is one of their product labels working closely with international designers as Philippe Starck e.g.

So what is all the grumble about?

This faucet is very unusual, its design (not the faucet itself!!) is organic. It reminds me of branches. Love it!

Why is it that in 'Good Questions' the enlarged photo always slips to the right under the ads? I can't see any measurements here :-( Or is this just me??

How To Lay Out Kitchen with Big, Low Window? Good Questions

In Germany most windows open inside, so this is a common problem with kitchen faucets here.

We have special faucets which either fold sideways (not so nice) or which can be lowered, if you want to open the window.

Like so. Scroll down this page to see how it works.

I can't stand houses or rooms that do not have those datum lines (although I didn't know this name). Especially windows just scattered over the walls are driving me nuts. I need those clear simple lines, horizontally and vertically.

The windows and doors in this house have all been lined properly which was a good start. I used these as guides for dado rails and picture frames.

I read those on Facebook, especially the part about their rights on content uploaded by members. That's why I'm not on Facebook.

Lemon. I use a lot of lemon juice in cooking. I keep the peel on the sink until I've done the garlic or onions. Then I rub my fingers and hands in the empty lemon halves and dumb them. Works great.

Another vote for German buttercream!!!! It's the best!

It's not difficult. Cook a real vanilla pudding with a bit more than double the amount of sugar. Let it cool to room temperature covered with cling film to avoid a skin.

Whisk butter at room temperature until fluffy. Add pudding by the spoonful and whisk until fully blended. Eat ;-)

No. Fill and cover cake, cool, then eat.

Ratio: round about 2 cups pudding to 1 cup butter. It's easy. Just take care to have both, pudding and butter at the same, at room temperature. If it curdles, put it back on low heat, then start again.

@CRAZYLADY
@SAUCEFIEND

I tried it your way, CRAZYLADY, and yes, I could get to all product details. It didn't even ask me once to log in. They must have changed that because until yesterday it was impossible to do it this way. (I'm glad I was not the only one who had these problems)

But still, I cannot check the availability of a product in any given shop in another country. Let's say Ikea.nl, are those pillows available at Ikea in Heerlen. I click ok and nothing shows up. This local availability check I can do for my country only (here Germany). As said already, today without being asked to log in.

So, they have changed back something today. Hopefully they'll change back the rest, too.

@ERICAUERBACH, thanks for this tip! I've tried hidemyass and it worked!. Halfway. I could get to all product information (which is great!) but I could not check the availability at a given store. Which makes planning purchases in another country impossible.

I think, that's exactly why IKEA did this. IKEA protectionism.

You can't even check availability in your own country, if you are not logged into your account.

@DULCIBELLA, email addresses I have some but no physical addresses and telephone numbers (they asked for that as far as I remember). I presume, the 'frustrating correspondence' you had with their customer service, not with the headquarter?

I even shared my 'famous' mayonnaise recipe ;-)

But once I refused to give a recipe. To a party I'd brought small almond pastries called 'Friands' from an old Paul Bocuse baking book. A girl asked for the recipe to give it to her mother to sell these pastries in their delicatessen shop!! No.

Absurd, too: you give a recipe to somebody, this person makes a mess out of it and then declares, oh, this is XYZ's recipe!
