it is interesting to me how many people are pointing out that a large fridge is absolutely necessary. when i lived in ireland, i was living with two roommates in a small 2 bedroom apartment and we only had a 'dorm-sized' fridge to share. it was slightly difficult at first because each individual had separate groceries, but we learned that you don't really need that much storage if you go to the store for a quick trip every other day or every few days. people are rely too heavily on buying many things at one time. it's foolish because often times you forget what you even have. our kitchen had a tiny stove, tiny refrigerator, AND a washer that also was a dryer. miniature, but very convenient. If you have children or sloppy lushes that are friends, a magic eraser is thee best and (in my opinion) only way to sucessfully and quickly remove ball point pen off of a leather couch. It does not take off the colour and does not stain in the process of removing a stain. In short, it is amazing -- but this is the only time I use the magic eraser. Nearly every other mess can be cleaned with eco-friendlier things. Magic Erasers: Toxic or Terrific? |

i find this, among other ridiculous blog posts regarding attacks on hipsters and beer/wine snobs, to be so besides the point -- as well as fairly annoying. i think the general consensus is that most people do not appreciate when someone is a 'one-upper' or 'pretentious'. however -- it is entirely another thing to attack a 'group' (this group often times being very generalized) of people that enjoy something and are very knowledgeable/passionate about that 'something'. why am i not reading more about manners or the appropriate way to explain something sans jargon. ksjdaldsjkldj grumble grumble. ? People were just relaying their personal experiences -- most of them being great. Just as you are relaying your…apprehensiveness/paranoia (?). I don't know the age range of the commentators, but couch surfing (especially when backpacking) is a wonderful, affordable option. As a 21 year old student, I didn't have the funds to stay in a hotel or even some of the hostels. Aside from the financial benefits -- it also offers an entirely different experience, especially if staying with someone from the country you are visiting. In case you have missed the content of the comments entirely, no one is trying to make any one couch surf, either. Couch Surfing: Would You Allow a Stranger in Your Home? |

! you did it. thanks, DCarl1. i second your feelings on lazy editing -- that's fair. it was (and is) mostly the others that i see time and time again with ridiculous pickiness and snobbery, making me not even want to browse the comments. however, i'm liking this sharing business. wow. so very defensive, vegans. hows about instead of complain and scrupulously pick through this (anyone who cares will know that parmesan would not fall under the vegan repetoire), you provide us with some of your favorite recipes to share with others. While living abroad in Cork, Ireland in 2008, my roommate and I hosted a few couchsurfers -- a wonderful experience to meet others and to boost our credibility as couchsurgers ourselves. While backpacking for a month we stayed with 'strangers' in Amsterdam, Paris, and Florence. We found that it was a nice balance and affordable alternative between hostels and 2-star hotels. Also: it makes for excellent stories. Couch Surfing: Would You Allow a Stranger in Your Home? |

The Magic Eraser is seriously amazing. We had a NYE party resulting in ball point pen ink on my lovely seafoam/mint green leather couch. I was horrified, google-ing solutions for a while -- very afraid to use the common household items listed for fear of damaging the leather. Luckily -- the Magic Eraser did wonders and did not discolour the leather what so ever. I am so thankful and highly suggest anyone with pen on leather to use it!! Best: Hard-to-Clean Tips |

Six of my co-workers and I had a cookie exchange this year. There absolutely were rules -- no slice and bake, no bars, and no chocolate chip cookies. It was fun, but I'll admit that I was a bit underwhelmed by the spread. I adore baking and it didn't really bother me that I spent several hours on my sour cream almond sugar cookie cut-outs with glaze while others may have spent far less time (re-reading this -- it seems like I am being sarcastic or passive aggressive -- but really! I love baking and enjoy the zen moments of just me and my kitchen aid mixer). I think doing something you enjoy and sharing it with others is far more important then being bitter about the type of cookie or time spent. However -- I am not exactly sure how and if some of the rock hard cookies will be eaten and because of that -- I guess -- I will probably refrain from the exchange and just share my love of baking with friends and family, not asking for anything in return.
