It took less time than we thought actually. You start off with all these pieces, but then slowly whittle it down in sizes, color, placement etc., and pretty soon it's done!

Definitely! We've done that for a lot of the house construction and it's helped tremendously. A bit of rough Photoshop work goes a long way.

The cabinets will eventually get face panels that will hide all the drawers and their contents. They'll probably be solid maple pieces.

Thanks for the post and comments! It was a lot of fun to do.

AT also did a tour of the house construction a while back if folks are interested.

Does your Toshiba P100 support dual displays, meaning its LCD as well as a second monitor? This could be the reason you're only seeing the desktop image on the TV. Try "Mirroring" both outputs (Mac-centric terminology), to make a single output to the laptop screen and TV.

Just installed TED in our new "green" construction in Vermont, and am loving it! Since it's an all-electric house it'll be interesting to see the highs and lows of the various systems over the next year.
My goal is under $100 a month for the whole house, which includes the heating & cooling system, hot water, ventilation systems, computers, lights etc. So far we're doing okay!

Thanks for the replies!

I'm familiar with X10, and use it currently for a few lights in my apartment, and I'm sure the INSTEON is similar. I wonder what your Radio Shack system is?

The idea behind using the Lightning Switch products is to reduce the amount on wiring in a new home construction that I'm currently building in Vermont. The price of copper is extremely high at the moment, and our budget for electrical has DOUBLED because of this factor. The idea of not running wire to switches has great appeal.

Good Question: Ever Used Lightning Wireless Switch System?
