I love the Thomas Paul shower curtain. We have the elephant. I wanted to octopus but our bathroom really needed the orange color of the elephant.

True story: I put a monogram on the header of my resume after a year of looking for a new job with no bites. Got an interview in a day. Coincidence? I doubt it.

NO WORK. I made a rule when I was a 2L in law school and moved into a one bedroom by myself that no textbooks were permitted in my bedroom. Now, no work is permitted. If I'm sick and working from home, the laptop stays in the living room.

No personal photos.

No food.

Chicago, East Village, $1065 for 850 sq ft . I pay too much. I have no dishwasher & no central air. But it's cute, hardwood, lots of nice moulding, responsive management company. And the thought of moving makes me cringe.

I have a fondness for Amy Butler - there was this cute store (Green Velvet) in the town where I went to college that sold Amy Butler fabric, etc. The owner once told me that Amy Butler lived only a few miles down the road. I've always sort of imagined her raising chickens on some gorgeous green lawn in the backyard of a farm house.

I have a receipe for blue cheese dressing that calls for Tabasco - I use whatever hot sauce I have on hand when I make it. It does add a little something.

I just bought my first carton of wonky, farm fresh eggs at the market this morning. I'm excited to eat them!

I have a few of the Sur La Table anodized icecream bowls, and they're also the perfect size for dips or candies or nuts. Guests always compliment them.

I love the Hideout, but I wouldn't want my home to resemble it, not even a basement.

Decorator Dave - I love Kara Mann. I swoon for all her rooms.

ebrown - according to the article in House Beautiful (which I mentioned in my post above), the headboard is made in Mexico.

Oh, strange - the headboard in 1 was also just in House Beautiful. The magazine featured designer Kishani Perea's bedroom, and she has the same headboard, but she gilded it.

I make my apartment feel like fresh by re-purposing or moving furniture I already had. I recently considered buying a new media stand for my living room, a new bookshelf for my office, and a kitchen island. Instead of spending the money, I moved the shelves in my living room to my office and moved my mini-bar to where the bookshelf had been. I started using my existing 2-shelf, very small coffee table as a media stand, and I also converted a small ottoman to a cocktail ottoman in place of the coffee table. The living room is far more spacious - and I can now do yoga there because my cocktail ottoman is on wheels, so I can just ship it off to the side for a bit.

I also took an old Ikea desk on wheels with a bottom shelf and converted into a kitchen island by putting cutting boards on top and a few boxes of essentials on the bottom shelf. It's like I got all new furniture but I spent nothing.

This was the color combo I picked out for my bedroom when I was seven. Glad to know I was a tasteful seven year-old.

I had a child's desk that looked exactly like that. The number of compartments, the drawer pulls, the cutout for the chair... It was painted yellow to match my headboard, then my dad sanded & refinished it to almost that exact color.

Yay! For the first time in my adult life, my bedroom could be posted here as a clean bedroom. It has so improved the quality of my sleep to have a room that makes me happy and that is uncluttered.

I was thinking about painting my living room mint. I have always loved it. It was the color of my childhood bedroom. But I just can't decide. My couch is brown velvet, and I have a robin's egg blue chair and another chair (currently swathed in cream color fabric until I make a decision) that is waiting to be upholstered. I guess I should pick up some samples.

Hah, I just did this very Ikea hack this weekend. I used a darker stain (not happy with Minwax dark walnut!) and Anthropologie drawer pulls.
