the dining room in the vault!? i bet when the door is closed, they aren't bothered by any noise from outside.

i like bodicegodess's response. it does depend on the ghost. i've lived in a lot of places and run into ghosts [full on apparitions, voices, noises and cold spots] in seattle, london, san francisco. mostly they've been benign. but that bastard in london was scary.

it appears very "graphic" and 2-d in the pictures, but i bet it just sings in person.

i once did an apartment in wildly bold colors and the photos all looked like advertisements, but it was so fun and dynamic in person.

good job!

not so much a fan of this layout, especially if you actually cook. nothing like having the first impression be the kitchen mid-meal preparation.

actual blue prints, diazo prints, are pure nostalgia these days. the chemicals used to make them [amonia mostly] are now classified as hazardous and most print shops don't even have diazo machines anymore. large format copiers have replaced these, and though they don't look as cool, they are a lot healthier for the people making them. if you do this with real diazo prints, they do fade, yellow and get "dusty" over time, so you might want to seal them some how.

that is lovely! i am inspired to remodel the slightly larger kitchen in the studio i own. my tenant would love me. it's ideal for somebody who cooks sporadically, and knows exactly what kind of cooking he likes to do. and it looks neat and tidy enough to be open to the rest of the apartment. love it.

man, you people just don't get the humor, too bad it's wasted on you. it's no different from people using lenon posters or che guavara stuff. it's a lovely home!

it is AMAZING to me how many people judged this kitchen based only on the photos and not on the photos AND the interview/write up....even here there are folks who still think this is a show kitchen and not a working kitchen. the owner is a freaking cookbook author!

i think it's a lovely kitchen. it works for them and the kind of cooking they do. it might not work for everybody, but it works for the owners and that's really all that matters. that and that it is beautiful.

our family has, for the past 5 years, decided to give gifts only to the kids. all the other money we would have spent on gifts for family is donated the the charity of the givers choice. we'll be doing this again this year. we share, at our holiday gathering, what charity we've given to, and what the charity does.

chihuly often works at such a large scale that is unusual for glass artists. it's really amazing how his work affects a space. glorious. and they said modernism was cold. hah.

"soften" modern? what's the point? that's like taking the floral out of laura ashley. the whole point of modern is not being decorated.

witold's book is okay, but he annoys me.

gaston's book was required reading in college and was so ponderous i never made my way through it.

i don't know winifred's or akiko's books. i'll have to look them up.

clare's book is AMAZING, and i highly recommend it.

i would also recommend moore, lynndon, turnbull's "the place of houses" as a great book on the subject.
