@mellycooks Thanks so much! The shelves are a fun project that I've done in the last few places I've lived. I simply buy some brass or bronze finish standards and brackets from the hardware store - they run $5-$10 each depending on size - and some wood planks that I can stain walnut, then find the studs, and design it how I want it. Varying the height and width of the shelves gives it a custom look. It's a super easy and pretty inexpensive way to get a wall-mounted shelving system.

@letirossi - Occupational hazard; I've worked there for over three years. I guess I could have taken them all out just for the shot, but it really didn't occur to me. That's how the room is, and I kind of forget how weird it must look to someone without that context.

@Therese Z - it's an old door that I'm making into a magazine rack using vintage pant hangers. @37Rubydog is right - it's just for display.

Trader Joe's seems like an odd place to want to drive across a state for ... mostly they offer convenience products, and going to this much trouble seems decidedly inconvenient. Unless it's December and we're talking about candy cane joe-joe's, but you can get those on eBay.

Delightful. I love the palette and the way it's executed in the room. And the fireplace is stunning!

I love this. Every detail is fabulous and creative, and it looks like an inviting and comfortable space to be in. But I wish we could have seen more of this room - that yellow chair in the first photo is such a tease.

This is wonderful! I also have that bird fabric over your couch; my mother worked at a wall coverings store in the 60's and saved it as a swatch. What a happy room to be in!

Thanks again all :) @Jennifer 42 - I bought the sofa off craigslist for $200 from a Finnish diplomat who was moving back to Europe. He bought it in London some years ago, and noted that "many important people have sat on this couch," but didn't elaborate.
