Wow, I just did this over the weekend. I tried arranging on the floor, but moved to cutting out pieces of newspaper and taping them. It was great using both ways so that I could visualize it pre-nails. I love your art and the arrangement!

The floors are nice. I say leave them and paint the walls a nice charcoal grey. Then you can add a nice black and white area rug and carry on.

Wow, if only I had seen this post 2 weeks ago. I thought about going to IKEA, but didn't feel like the crowd. So I went to Home Depot and stood there and stared at the closet aisle for 40 minutes. Then realized that there was more to choose from on another aisle. Decided on the closet maid system and had to return to the store 3 times to cut it down to a custom size.
Thank goodness for the tools we already had at home and a handy hubby. Oh, by the way, the closetmaid system had two left pieces and so we had to rig it to make it work. But my closet is awesome... Now.

My lessons:
1. Do not hold on to a gigantic southwestern canopy bed in a studio apartment. You can change the furniture for next to nothing thanks to Craigslist.
2. Invest in an air conditioner.
3. To piggy back on UrbanCricket's advice, pay attention to the architectural details.
My little studio was a tad bit industrial with hard wood floors, exposed brick, crown molding, and vintage harlequin tiles in the bathroom and kitchen. I wish that I had gone MCM or Hollywood Regency.
4. Choose furniture that is multi-functional.
5. A little glamour never hurt anyone.

I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY LOVE THIS PLACE!!!
It is so happy and glam. And that gold couch... Wow! I have been trying to achieve this look in a low key way, so all of my walls are dove white, but I love your walls. I've also been sticking to green, navy and turquoise, but I do love that pink. Your house rocks. I am inspired to go all the way now!
