In my own community, we do Moth-style story slams at local coffeeshop and many local public radio stations have their own story-telling initiatives.

Beautifully done.

@Frankiefrank - To each his own vice. My partner - a non-drinking filmmaker, would find your claim that DVDs are too college followed up by a suggestion to put booze and barware in the cabinet rather hilarious.

I will throw in a third for the Boston Shaker. A lot of those shakers with built in strainers and tiny, tiny lids at the top tend to freeze shut depending on how long you're shaking a drink. I've had to wrestle with several at parties when they were the only option. If a Boston Shaker gets stuck, you simply whack it against a table and the glass and cup pop apart.

Expedits are really a great solution for record storage unless you can afford something custom built. CD storage is definitely trickier.

Regarding Blandwagon's question about CDs, I'm a DJ and in order to get broadcast quality digital copies of all the music I have on CD, I'd have to rip them in WAV format instead of MP3, which means bigger files and thus the need for more hard drives. And I'm sorry, but the idea of putting a lifetime's worth of music that I use for my job on hard drives that could get damaged and cause me to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars of music, makes me sick to my stomach.

That said, I've yet to find the Expedit equivalent of CD storage (affordable and able to store large quantities attractively without having to have something custom built).

That placement doesn't seem at all practical if you like to play records on a regular basis.

The design is okay, but the functionality, especially for those of us who use rss readers to access AT content, leaves quite a bit to be desired.

I would love to see a floor plan/and or a full house tour for this one. It looks to be roughly the same size as my studio, and I'm very interested to see how everything fits together.

This was our second year celebrating PARK(ing) Day in Dayton, Ohio. It's always nice to see our urban landscape getting mixed up a bit.

I was about to grumble and then I realized that the newly proposed Billy will not only still hold my books just fine, it was also now be deep enough to hold vinyl records. Huzzah!

Oooh yeah, pet rent is a big thing in my part of Ohio. I'm looking for a new place right now and I've seen $60 per month per pet, which means an additional $120 on every month's rent!

That's actually been the best incentive to stay where we are. Because one of our cats was adopted from starving to death in front of our building, all of our pet fees for both cats have been waived.

Indeed, I'm sitting here in Dayton and can definitely also guess the university dorms you fled..probably from my alma mater (where I also did not live in the dorms).

I've lived in a 13 story high rise for over five years, and while I don't know everyone in the building - I know most of my neighbors enough to chat a bit in a laundry room and on the elevator. On our floor we tend to be closer to the neighbors on our end of the hall by sheer proximity and the fact that they've all lived there as long as (most longer) than we have save for one apartment next door. We're all different ages and on a variety of schedules, but we'll stop and chat in the hall and try to know what's happening with each so we can help each other out if need be (like when our elderly neighbor had hip surgery, another woman was being treated for cancer, etc).

Our building is downtown, but we're in this kind of no man's land between neighborhoods. That used to really bother me, but I soon realized that we've got a nice community within our building.

I love the library as a divider, and have thought about doing that in my own space. I'm curious - do you have any trouble with the shelf not being anchored to the wall? My concern is that it would be very wobbly as a freestanding shelf.

I suppose it totally depends on your definition of weird....the MC Hammer doll in gold clothing, classic Godzilla mask and Robbie the Robot statue seem completely normal to my partner and I. ;-)

It's really cute, but I can't imagine having that set up in my own home and using it. If you're both gamers, I can definitely see how that would work. However I can't imagine my sig other trying to edit his film work with me sitting right next to him trying to edit audio. It wouldn't be noise (we both edit in headphones anyway), but it would hard to get totally absorbed in your work knowing someone was essentially right over your shoulder.

On the rare occasion that we're both out of town, we have another couple in our apartment building that also has two cats. We've watched their cats, and they've watched ours. It's a great arrangement and usually one couple will take the other out to dinner or for drinks as thanks.

Our vet, who we absolutely love, also offers boarding services. It would of course cost a bit more, but if the need ever arose, that's an option I would be comfortable with.

Does your cat have claws? That would definitely factor into whether some kind of screening solution is viable.

Also, cats jumping and falling from high places does happen. A friend of mine had a cat who never tried to jump out the window until it had some kind of seizure as it was walking by the window and fell right out. He's fine now but had some pretty serious injuries.

I have to agree with BetterBombshell and idon'tdobeige, if music means a lot to you, then it should be in your space.

Aside from framing and good arrangement, it's not going to look like a frat house if the rest of your space isn't already on the way. If you've already got dart boards, beer signs and and the like, then I'd worry. Use your best judgment. If it feels right for your space, then it's right for you.

I have things displayed on my fridge, but I'd hardly call it cluttered. I take great care to curate the images on my fridge (taken from design magazines and other places) and display them by using magnet paper so everything has a clean edge.
