This is still a blog - the blogger can post anything they want (that's legal), no? This post might not be design related but that's the blogger's choice. The White House's Flickr Photostream A Peek Inside the Ultimate Live/Work Space | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

Agas have been discussed in the press over here in the UK recently regarding their eco-(un)friendliness. The spokesperson pointed out that they last several lifetimes and can eventually be recycled. The can also be used to run the central heating as well as cook, and there are different models that run on different fuels. They are so heavy that they retain heat for a long time, so it's not like running a regular stove 24hrs. However, I'm not convinced, given the efficiency of modern ovens and heating systems in the UK. I once moved into a house that had a large gas-fired Aga. True, it was great to have a cosy kitchen all year round - especially when the electricity went off for five days at -20C - but other than that it was a bit of a nuisance to use and expensive to run. And the Companion models, which are just regular stoves styled to look like Agas, look twee and have ovens with poor energy efficiency ratings. A beautifully considered, well photographed home. It has the same spirit as a previously featured home in London (did it belong to an artist named Hugh?). Thank you for sharing. Apartment Therapy New York | House Tour: Tom and Justin Gently Shape their Landmark New York |

Living in a basement flat, I'm very envious of all your natural light. The same limited colour palette throughout is very effective - it makes the space seem cohesive and spacious. The only element I'm not completely sold on (and this is a very minor quibble) is the pink bunting above the window as it seems a little twee. I wish my dad had a Bertoia chair... Thanks for entering the competition - it's great to see such a sunny, welcoming space. Apartment Therapy Boston | Small Cool 2009: Catherine's Urban Garden International Division #21 |

Very well composed, good lighting, and nicely photographed. This seems very harmonious and not reliant on lots of bright colour or feature items of furniture. When I first looked at the photos I thought this place might be Dutch - which is a compliment in my book! My only (very minor) quibble is that the lace curtain doesn't look quite the right size for the window. Apartment Therapy Chicago | Small Cool 2009: Dave Amy's Creative Solutions Small Division #14 |

I agree with arroyo - the fixtures are original art deco and look fabulous. Much more interesting than modern stuff. Could you come to love them? Obviously eventually get rid of the non-original tiles. Then go with black, white and chrome to carry the theme. I really dislike pink too but in this case I'd make an exception to replacing it all. I've had roller blinds in a bedroom before and they looked great but were awful if the window was open - air movement would suck them into the window recess or the bottom bar would keep knocking against the window frame. Same arguments over here in the UK. Many planning departments are now actively encouraging modern designs to avoid pastiche, but there's still lots of opposition to this approach. My local area has beautiful Georgian architecture with a few very contemporary gems in infill spaces and modern conversions of small mews houses. If well designed I personally think the new additions work very well and add to the richness of the built environment. If you're looking at blinds that attach to the doors themselves, check how flush they sit against the doors and consider how much light would get through the gap. And whether wooden blinds would rattle against the doors! Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Good Questions: Blocking Out Light Between Rooms? |
