Growing up I always felt that way about my parents' teak furniture. The house was full of the stuff. It was in the dining room, living room, their bedroom...

As an adult I now realize how stylish our house was back then and have even managed to scoop a few of their pieces for my own home.

Our house is around 4,000 square feet. But, rent our basement suite to a couple of young muscians and our third floor to a young proessional woman. So, in our big house there are five adults, a toddler, and a cat.

I honestly prefer apartment life and could easily live in something around 500 square feet, or even a bit smaller. But my husband was raised in a rural town in big, open spaces. He wanted a house and a yard. I gave in.

Kristen, you're not alone. My mother-in-law always comments on how "dirty" my house is, no matter how many hours I spend scrubbing. What this has taught me is that the people who really care about me don't care if it's a little rough around the edges. So, I no longer worry about the house being clean before mt other-in-law arrives. She's only going to say something anyway.

Some of those cities look like real estate bargains to me. The only cities on that list that seem expensive are San Fransisco, maybe Seattle, and New York. Otherwise, every other city's average price is miles cheaper than the average in my own town.

IMO, buy vs. rent is more about priorities vs. investment and less about cost.

Incredibly sweet! I love kids re-purposed kids toys and furniture. Imagine if you keep it long enough to pass onto your grandkids. An heirloom in the making. :)

Three years ago I painted my livingroom mint green and I have struggled with the choice ever since. It worked for a while, paired with white and teal. But I'm ready to move on now. During the summer months when the light is strong, the walls are so minty they make me feel physically ill (strange, I know).

It's not for me, but I don't have a cell phone either. At work I sit in front of a computer all day. When I'm at home, the last thing I want to do is sit/stand in front of another computer. So I'd still rather use a cookbook.
