I just bought a 1921 house that is chock full of radiators, and, after initially thinking I'd hate them and rip them out, I decided they're sort of cool and sculptural. We haven't covered any of them up, just repainted a few. I'm trying to think of them as sculpture, and a way to force myself to be a bit more minimalist.

I have used a decorator to do a paint consult ($150 for an hour or so), and some suggestions on furniture placement and things. Totally, totally worth it, even if you are style junkie. The paint color stuff alone was worth it...I just think she knew things about hues being too grayed out or extreme. I'm hiring her again as we move into a new house....it's worth every penny, and we're on a budget!

Yeah, it's funny, I like the second, but see the good in both. And that sofa looks very Room & Board to me.

I love the yellow door and the yellow dog. You've used vintage pieces...the suitcase, the mailbox, etc...with such a nice, delicate hand...the effect is chic, not junk-shop overload...just lovely!

Oh my gosh — it's like Jules Verne slept here! I love it...the willingness to go all-out and merge quirk and function is so great. Bravo, ModVics!

The magic posters are awesome...did they belong to your aunt?

I think the negativity here is a bit strong...I do like this home, but think maybe what's lacking might in scale? Like the carving is so lovely and dramatic, but in other spots the plants and the art seem underwhelming in size and placement. Maybe that rug inspires some punches of color elsewhere that aren't so strong they take away the nice Zen-ish vibe? But still, it's a nice place.

One nice thing about Empire, too, is that it had two heydays — the mid to late 19th century, and then an early 20th-century revival. You should be able to find a similar table for a couple hundred bucks, like a 20th-century one. My husband and I have one so, so much like that, and it was $200 a few years ago. A great style because it can look both trad or modern!

More, more! This house seems like grandma-meets-hipster in the most delightful way...I want to see more, and I want to move in...

This is stunning...so full of whimsy, great color combos and an eclectic display sensibility. Honestly one of the best tours I've seen on AT. And where do you guys get your fabulous busts and sculptures? They're so insouciant and great...it makes me want to go rob the antiquities section of a museum!
