No open shelving for me. NYC is too dusty of a city, plus I'm a renter so I can't really change the shelving out anyways. Another renter's problem, a crappy hood/vent, so the combo of dust and grease would make me have to wash all my dishes every other day. Open shelving is pretty for magazine shoots, but not for busy city living...

What Gruns said.

For me, the old hardware/handles has lot more character. The new ones are nondescript. Also from clicking through to the original blog, the dresser had those great tapered brass-capped MCM legs and have now been replaced with also very nondescript blocky legs.

Each to her own. If the new version of the dresser allows the owner to love it, more power to her.

A Noguchi table outside? Hope LA doesn't rain much. Otherwise love every bit of it.

Growing up in an asian household, shoes-off and slippers on was the norm for me. I didn't even know that people wore shoes in their homes until I moved to NYC.

I definitely will be providing tons of slippers for the guests I'm about to have over for Thanksgiving.

Really cute, love the clean design and also love the fact it's locally harvested.

Fantastic design, the first one I could actually see myself integrating in my own apt.

The wood looks much nicer than the berber carpet, but the hinges make me cringe in a bad way. It's almost like it's a booby trap- hinged bare wood stairs with no railing... yikes!

I love having close friends over. Having them overnight means we get that much longer to relax and enjoy each other's company. My bf and I regularly have a pair of really good friends stay over and it's pretty great.

As for family and relatives, I usually feel more stress (from his family and from my own) since I always feel the need to keep them entertained and happy.

Cleaning the house is never a problem since both the bf and I love keeping our home clean for our own enjoyment (who likes to be confronted with a messy/dirty house at the end of a long work day?) so we are pretty much guest-ready any given day.

Reality Check: Do You Really Like Having Overnight Guests

Depending on how much clearance you have, rotate the bed and center it between your two window. You'll then have 2 more even and smaller spaces created by the bed acting as a room divider. Never smoosh the bed into a corner or against a wall unless you absolutely do not have space in the room. Being able to access the bed from both sides is important especially when you are sharing the bed with someone else.

Think about creating a reading nook by one of the windows or a working area depending on your needs. A few area rugs will help to create a cozier ambiance.

Have fun, you have a great room to furnish!

How To Make Use Of Large Bedroom?
Good Questions

I'm in complete agreement with Bennemans. If you have clothes that you care about, do not expose them this way. I have silk blouses, skirts and dresses that I keep in a closed closet. All my leather shoes and bags are also kept well away from the sun. I don't need unnecessary UV bleaching of my garments when I'm not wearing it, and seeing as my bedroom gets the full morning sun- no thank you! Not to mention the dust factor. My clothes are to adorn my person, not to act as decor for my room.

Looks pretty when styled in a magazine or blog, but not practical.

How funny :) I actually don't own a conventional rectangular rug, I have the ikea red ps round rug in the dining room under my round dining table and one round sheepskin rug in the living room.

I never liked straight lines in something that is supposed to be cozy and soft. For the bedroom I'm looking for a bowron pelt.
