My Hoover WindTunnel (bagless) is amazing for under $100 http://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WindTunnel-Upright-Bagless-UH70120/dp/B002HFDLCK . I use it on low pile carpet through most of my apartment and bare floor in the kitchen and it picks up dog and cat fur very well, but it shines on my stairs. There's a handle at the top and bottom of the canister that makes cleaning the fully carpeted steps slightly less annoying.

I use cards on a rare basis, in bound format. I'm working from the internet when cooking far more often these days, and using evernote to keep a record of my recipes and photos.

I gave these a try on Superbowl night resulting from having people over while my oven is on the fritz. They were a huge hit. I used whole wheat tortillas, fresh mozzarella, and alternated between pepperoni and basil pesto. Great dish, super easy!

I just grabbed a few old mags and tried this out, too simple really. I stuck one next to my bed that previously had no side table (platform bed with drawers) and another in my entryway with a few coasters on top to level the surface, pretty cute, actually. My apartment is quirky so the idea fits, thanks for the inspiration!
