jess - I have used both. I personally like the tang from the cream cheese, but they both work really well. I use the SMBC when I do a chocolate cake or some other flavor where you really want the flavor of the cake to come through.

hey everyone! I am the one responsible for the cake pop post yesterday (I am kind of afraid to comment over there for fear of being slaughtered by the mob :-) The cake pop, in it's traditional format is SUPER sweet, and I think thats the appeal of it. I myself am not a huge fan, they are much to sickly sweet for me, but man, people love them. Lately though, I have been using either swiss meringue buttercream or cream cheese frosting with less sugar, to tone them down a bit. I never use boxed cake or canned frosting anymore, and also a good tip is to only use as much frosting as the mixture needs to hold together. The more frosting you use, the more the consistency turns mushy.

I like the idea of using a dark chocolate or bitter chocolate in place of the candy melts, those things are pure sugar!

I have two spicy soups that I make frequently. Rick Bayless's black bean chorizo soup with adobo peppers, and a curried lentil and ginger soup. Both are hot and spicy, definitely warm you up from the insides out!
