We moved to Knoxville three years ago and really enjoy living here! Downtown is great and growing. It's actually an exciting time to live in Knoxville and witness the growth and development that is happening in the downtown area. I feel Knoxville is progressing (maybe slower than other parts of the country, but it is progression) and the overall vibe is pretty positive. Out of the two options, I prefer the blue option best--but just on the mantle, leave the walls surrounding it white. I really like home body's idea of using a white with a hint of color to it--blue or green would be pretty. Or, you could even take the color up to the ceiling and leave all the walls and mantle white--a bluish green would work best I think. I disagree with painting the window wall your accent color--the window has an odd placement (which I'm sure you don't want to show off)--I would use curtains to trick the eye in making the window look balanced. I have the opposite problem. I'm 5'9 and my husband is 6'2 and just recently purchased a new couch. While shopping, a lot of the couches that we liked made me feel like a giant (and the cushions cut into the back of my legs). I loved the deeper couches but their too small for my living room. So we ended up getting one with a 36" seat and it's almost too short with the back cushions. The Deep Couch | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

I spent 5 years living 700 miles from my hometown and could never make it home for the holidays because I worked in retail. I think the first year, I was a little sad because I felt like I was missing out on the festivities, then the second year I cooked my boyfriend a traditional meal for the two of us. It was awesome, we made bloody mary's, watched movies, ate food and just relaxed. Some years, we'd just drive around the city or even the beach (I was living in Florida). Since moving closer to home and no longer working in retail, I kind miss those days when it was just us. Now we have to travel (2 hours away), squeeze in 2 family visits and sleep in someone elses house. We love our families, but I really miss being able to just relax and enjoy the holidays. I grew up in a house with paneling and brick and let me tell you, it was dark and depressing. Exposed brick in some settings is attractive, but not all brick is equal. And all brick fireplaces certainly are not equal. I think their place looks like they weren't afraid to make it their own or to paint over elements that they didn't like (which stops some people, they don't like their brick fireplace, but are afraid to paint over it because it's brick). Their house feels airy and light and since they have tarted out with a neutral color scheme, it'll be easy for them to change it in the future. I like the idea of the floating shelves and the color coding of the books. However--I think if you're going to arrange the books by color, it should be done light to dark, left to right. Possibly I've worked in retail too long but the books look out of balance with black being on the second to top shelf and red on the bottom.
