i have to admit, the "greens" in that picture don't look particularly yummy. they've been cooked to within an inch of their life.

add a BRIGHT green salad with butter lettuce, a few radishes and cucumber slices, and then we're talking...

Boy oh boy!

I was slow to sign up for the Cure, largely because I didn't think my kitchen was that bad. Sure, it had gotten a little cluttered, but it was the least of my issues.

Seems I was WAY wrong. I started with the pantry last night and was amazed at how much stuff had accumulated in there. It's strange -- I think that after some period of time my mind just unconsciously adjusted to not see things.

I found, among other things, a half full tin of hot chocolate. I couldn't remember when I bought it, but I noticed there was a "Star Market" price tag on it. Well, I shopped at Star Market when I lived in Boston, and I've been living in NYC since 2001. You do the (nasty) math.

After four solid hours (um, yeah), my pantry looks fantastic. I know what I have, it is organized and neat. I keep opening the pantry to look at my work!

One question for the group -- I have very deep shelves (about 26 inches). It is good storage for my rarely used appliances, etc, but not as useful for food storage. I find the the back half of the shelf just goes unused. Any clever ideas for how to use this space?

I am looking forward to the next assignment - bring it on!

My mother would wake me and my brother up for school in the mornings and she wasn't particularly forgiving of slow risers. We usually had a 60-second window after the initial "time to get up!" call. If there was still no movement after the grace period, she would come into our rooms, rip the sheets/cover entirely off of the bed (and us) with one hand and use the other hand to cover our entire faces with a washcloth that had been dunked in cold water.

There was nothing more jarring. Needless to say, we quickly learned to hop out of bed when we heard her footsteps coming.

I love this wallpaper! It is by Manuel Canovas; you can order it thru a distributor. I have the same paper in gold with maroon flocked flowers in my living room. It makes me happy every day!

Looking for a great seamstress / curtain maker in NYC... I recently scored some beautiful fabric at a Brunschwig & Fils sample sale. I am hoping to get some curtains made, but can't seem to find anyone (my local drycleaner admitted that this was out of his area of expertise).

Any suggestions?
