@wandering star: We are going to take our just barely 1-year old on the plane in a month---because it is the ONLY feasible way to travel from where we live to where his great-grandparents live...unless we are stuck on a boat for a week or so. We are NOT going for him, but for the great-grands, who can not travel due to health, and may very well not live to see him as an older child.
I'll happily take the hate of people in order to bring the great-grands a bit of joy.

@happybirthday--so sorry about your dog. Luckily our shi-tzu mix adapted easily and happily to his new little (human) brother, but our friends had to give up their puppy to adoption after the birth of their second since the dog just kept getting more crazy and aggresive (despite numerous training, etc).

I think planning and getting training is absolutely a good thing for all new parents, but sometimes a pup and babe just will not work.

We ended up buying a crib that converts from/to a bassinet. My husband was against a co-sleeper , so the bassinet was a compromise...and we will probably be ready to switch out of the crib before we need the bassinet again.

JJ Cole used to make this awesome cross body bag (my friend has it and I am envious of it!) called the Logic bag...ebay maybe?

We are trying to decide a similar thing. I know it is maybe expensive, but I've been looking at the Bam bassinet/crib...starting in our room and then moving to the nursery as a crib. Anyone have thoughts on this?

My good friend just had her second a week ago. Her daughter (a month over 2) got a magna-doodle as a "big sister" present from the baby--and loves it. She can play with it by herself while mom is busy and draw without creating a mess on anything.

Thank you everyone!

dddhokie...I like the tree decal too, that was actually what I was searching for when I found this crib.

It's from etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5958100

the "cherry blossom tree".

My friend had a room similar to this (a little bigger, but shared). She had a built-in loft (attached to the walls and ceiling plus a fold out desk under the bed. The area under the bed was a carpeted/pillowed/bean bag space, so the desk was the right height for sitting on the floor rather than at a chair. She kept her room like this through high school...so I think it worked well enough.

(Her sister had a bed built under the stairs)
