I wish I'd gotten along with my roommate well enough to do this.

Those desks look pretty similar to the ones provided by my college; I'm sure you've checked, but if you want more desk space, they might have a flippy-up thing in the back. The one thing I miss about my dorm is that I was able to have a desk the size of a twin bed.

Here in Pittsburgh, it seems like all the restaurants have garage doors. As soon as the weather gets above 40 on a regular basis, the garage doors go up.

I've never seen it in the South, though, although it's probably too hot down there to do it during the summer.

@Bee T:
Having left high school only a year ago, even with motivation to bring lunch (vegan pickings = slim pickings when it comes to school lunch food), I can see why a lot of people didn't.

I had to carry around my lunch all day (not enough lockers), even if I did have a locker, I'd have to spend half of my lunch going to get it (large building), it's kinda weird (even though people thought my food looked good, it was still attention that I didn't necessarily want). And I had to remember to get up 20 minutes early to pack it (and I was already going to school at 6:50), etc. The whole thing was just a bigger pain than not eating.

So yeah, I learned to eat lunch after school at 4, and then a very late dinner.

I used to use Vegan Gourmet, but only because Daiya hadn't reached my area yet. For melty applications (grilled cheese, chili, pasta, cheese grits, etc), Daiya and Teese are head to head. I'm partial to Daiya, but mostly because I don't have to order it.

But for tasting, Dr Cow is the best. I was never one for cheese and crackers as a kid (my parents liked the smelly sutff), but if it tastes anything like Dr Cow, I can see why it's popular. I suspect that other cashew cheeses would be good, too.

Seconding talking to Isa or Terry. They're wonderful people, and top-notch cookbook writers. I've bought nearly all of their books (I'm missing Vegan Cookies), and everything I've made has been delicious.

But seriously. Get them to write something.

I remember the article had a thing about people not keeping produce in the crisper drawers, and putting drinks in there instead. Y'know, because it totally stays fresh in the crisper drawer...

Every time I put anything in there, it got gross within three days. I leave it out in the fridge, it stays good for a week.

3 is neat, except the bed looks like the sheets are garbage bags.

There's just something wrong with 5.

Took me a minute to figure out the second picture. That's... interesting.

They look okay, but... they're earbuds. They go in your ear. They get earwax on them. I get that we don't want ugly earbuds, but there's nothing offensive about most of the ones out there. The point of them isn't to look good, it's to sound good!

I don't worry about my etymotics not 'catering to my sense of style', or destroying my femininity or something. The biggest style decision I made with them was 'blue, red, or black?' (red, because it was cheaper at the time). I bought them to sound good, not look good.

I'm not sure I like the implication. Technology-driven, sporty things aren't for women, but stylish things are? I hope I'm just misreading that.

It's objectifying because there's a group of bubbles/men watching her, catcalling, leering, bullying...

It's kinda disgusting.

Ladle. Daily.

Sometimes I use a tiny ladle, sometimes a big ladly. But daily.

The potato masher is useless... I think it's a potato masher? It's HUUUUGE. It might be for meat, I dunno. I don't eat meat. I usually use a pastry blender anyways.

I think I've heard these called 'curry leaves'. I spent an age looking for them once, but no dice.

My parents bought me a ridiculously useless cookie scoop once. There was no swiper-thing, so you had to pull the cookie dough out by hand... The only way to use the one they gave me was the continually dip it into flour. Spoons were faster.

I think everyone has this to a certain degree. Sounds are shapes and lines to me, but they're so to everyone to an extent. The temperature has a smell, [today: "it's cold... but it's not really cold, it just smells that way..." "you think that too? I'm not alone!"], certain colors have tastes, music has colors and temperatures and shapes [like moving along a graph, like sin(x) = y ... but more as driving along it.]. Weirdly, though I love math and reading, nothing with numbers or words.

I don't think I have synesthesia, I just think that everyone has some twists in their neurons. It's like how everyone's got strange quirks, or is a little ADHD at times... Everyone's a little bit crazy.

Roasted. Roasted. Roasted, all the way.

Also fun is to bread them and roast them, recipe in Veganomicon. It's like crack. Brussel Crack. I found myself at midnight, sitting with the plastic container in my hand, spooning out breading and brussels...

Also good in scrambled tofu, but it's really the spices that make that dish.

As a vegan, serving a cheese-"cake" sounds really funny. Obviously not something I would do.

Not all bread. Read the ingredients...

This makes sense, at least. Prior to the eraser, bread was used. Makes me want to bring a loaf to school one day - "My erasers are all used up, sorry"

If you put a bit of thought in, I bet it wouldn't be too awful to do that. Shower rods or something all across the top, and then just pull them off, wash them, put them back on again. A ladder'd be needed, but I think it'd be feasible. Not for the whole house, though.
