Our 18 month old is extremely advanced for her age and because we do not have many children or cousins nearby to play with on a daily basis, each day we watch a few select tv shows amounting to about 45 minutes of screen time. She loves Peppa Pig and Yo Gabba Gabba and my husband and I enjoy watching her get excited about concepts from the shows ("throw and catch" or "shaking out the wiggles") that she was uninterested in when we tried to teach her ourselves. We watch the shows with her, sing the songs with her, talk about what is happening while we watch...it works for us. She also has a couple of movies that we watch when she is sick or teething and nothing else will distract her (she sings along with the music from "Tangled" and loves "Lady and the Tramp"). That being said, we also play with blocks, practice counting, color/paint, play outside we the dog, go to the park, pretend with her play kitchen and dolls...the list goes on. I think that each parent knows what is best for their own child and what the limit ought to be. I grew up on Sesame Street and Disney movies and still managed to excel in advanced English courses and go on to graduate from college. TV Time: What's the Magic Number? |

We have a few lantana in our backyard beds. While it does grow crazy fast and can potentially take over your garden, I have found that it holds up well to being pruned back pretty much year round. And by "pruned" I mean I take a pair of crappy old scissors and I trim it down to the size I want for my garden. And it still thrives. Mind you, I'm in Arizona which I think must be one of the top Lantana growing places in the world, so maybe other climates wouldn't let the lantana bounce back as well? 5 Hardy, Nearly Unkillable Plants | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

I adore this patio! And the grey is so soothing! It provides a beautiful muted neutral background for your furniture and the white curtains. I for one think it is perfect and sophisticated, but if you really wanted pops of color you could always add some planters of bright flowers or change out your throw pillows for something more vibrant. I love the bright pops of color that take this room from standard nursery pastel to bright and cheerful! Where did you get the mobile frame?! I have been looking for one for ages with no luck and I have all of my origami and pinwheels ready and waiting for a good frame. My Room: Cameron Toronto | Apartment Therapy Ohdeedoh |

Like lakegenva3 I look at computer screens all day, and I loathe the idea of adding another to my routine. As someone who reads voraciously I prefer the tactile nature of books; it means something to handle the text and the weight of the book. Plus I have a thing about reading in the bath and I've dropped too many books in the water to think that using an e-reader would be a good call. Books dry out but I doubt the apple pad would fare so well. Do Books Have a Future? | Apartment Therapy Re-Nest |

I would love to see more info on edible gardens in the southwest! Most of the gardening posts on here are geared towards those who live in naturally green places, which is great and all, but the info provided is not often applicable to cultivating a seasonal garden in the desert (I'm in Arizona.) Phoenix has a wealth of design offerings for anyone visiting (or those of us lucky enough to live here!) Because it is such a "young" state, there is a ton of MCM design hanging around from the development heydeys of yore :) Check out this awesome guide that designsponge put together a couple of months ago: Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | MidCentury Modernism in Phoenix Modern Phoenix |

NYKate, we have the same system. The guest room has saved our marriage :) Even before we moved in to a place with 2 bedrooms my husband has always been really good about sleeping on the couch if he is snoring especially loud or if I just need a break...I can't stand sleeping on our squashy couch (not enough back support) but thankfully he loves it. I actually really liked the "tufted" duvet and the tapedeck set. I see these working better in a dorm or a really streamlined bedroom without any other (or minimal) visual clutter. The "messy bed" set is just clever...not something I would ever buy, but still clever. I had to look at it 3 times before I realized it was a print. The striped set and the b&w cross-hatch thing are blah. Apartment Therapy Los Angeles | Diesel Lifestyle Bedding Collection |

Ugh...I hate hate hate cleaning windows. I am a big fan of our window cleaning company--it was much more affordable than I thought it would be and the difference that a proffessional can make is huge. This is one job I leave to the pros. We had the same problem when we started refinishing a mid century bedside table we bought. Most of the piece was a lovely walnut but the top was formica. We thought about having the tabletop replaced/recovered with a veneer, but we ended up scuffing the surface with sandpaper and painting several coats of lovely white laquer (sp?) on the top. It took some patience and a lot of buffing with steel wool to get the sleek polished surface we wanted, but we love how it came out and ended up giving our other (all wood) side table the same treatment to make them look cohesive. I think this is totally brilliant! Our tiny backyard doesn't leave much room for the huge garden of our dreams, so although we plan to start composting asap we are not sure what to do with it other than offer it up on craigslist. I always covet the beautiful Fiesta pitchers at my local antique shops, but prices start at $65 each! I wanted a yellow one to display in the kitchen in our new house, but was on a serious budget. Lucky for me, a local department store was closing and everything (including the fiestaware) was on clearance and I got my yellow pitcher for just $28. Not the vintage collectible I want someday, but a good start for now :) Apartment Therapy DC | Collections: Fiesta Dinnerware! |
