This is awesome! Santos you rock - seriously! So many of us are just complaining about the crisis, the economy - you really work with what you have and you are good at it! This is genius! I think it does lack a bit of a decorating flair though. If you'd like, I'd love to make a 3D rendering and add some color and accessories here and there. If you want to send me the floor plan and elevations, I'd love to do it, completely free of charge - just as a fun project :) - If you are interested, feel free to send me an email evm@homerefiner.com.

I have done it with so many IKEA pieces - that and changing door knobs.

Easiest way to take the "hey did you get that from Ikea?' look out :)

OMG! this is truly terrible.

Those pictures gave me the same feeling as that time the hair dresser completely destroyed my long hair and turned into a short 80's (burned) perm.

I don't even want to imagine those people's faces upon seeing their "new decor".

I love the blue on the room divider. Does anyone know what color that is?

Kelly perhaps?

Love how it is mixed with the gold trims!

Well! I like it! I think it is great to create something that can be used multi functionally. Doesn't mean you want to change it every day - but at least it gives you the opportunity to play with it and use it in different ways when you feel like giving your decor a little change. As a bookshelf it might still need a little tweaking but overall I think this is a great idea!

Often it takes the right terms to look for on Google. If I were you I would search for:

“vintage industrial” furniture
or

“vintage metal furniture”

You best bet (if you have the time and the patience) might be Ebay

Below are a few dealers but I think they are all out of your budget. Still they might lead to better deals or other terms to look for on the web.

www.installationsantiques.com

www.americanfurnishings.com

www.sonrisafurniture.com

www.retrooffice.com

http://pastpresentfuture.net

www.twentygauge.com

Good luck with that. I think it is worth the wait; it's a really beautiful piece you are looking at.

What's wrong about toilet rugs???

Toilet rugs, when used (and cleaned often) well, are absolutely fabulous underneath the feet.

Same for fake flowers -> Drop a silk flowers (without the stem) in a large glass vase with black pebbles and water and add a drifting candle. I did it, using the flowers in a color that came back in my painting and pillows - it looks beautiful!

I do agree with the fact that the personage might be wrongly chosen.

The idea, the concept of using highlighters in a different way however is a great idea and great marketing.

Yep! The best way to do this is by sanding the floors down and varnish them again with clear polyurethane.

You can actually rent the sanding machines yourself even though I heard they are pretty difficult to maneuver.

Remember that your floors take up a huge part of the entire decor...it might be worth the cost.

Good luck!

Wouldn't hang it in my place but anyone who tries something new gets 'a thumbs' up in my book - it is unique and a great way to recycle.

I could see that in a beach bar on an Island.

It seems like a lot of peculiar and detailed work. I am sure that required a lot of patience!

I agree with Curtis! Don't fight it, work with it. Doesn't mean you have to have a theme around the blah carpet but as Curtiz says, make sure to use a repeat of either a tone, color of pattern from the carpet into the other elements you will use.

That way it doesn't look like you tried to cover it up. Instead it will look like a happy "coincidence" ;)

Make sure to bring samples of whatever it is you will buy and compare with the rug and all the other furniture you already have before purchasing anything.

Group samples of all the elements that you think of using. Fabric samples, paint swatches, pillow covers, existing accessories and furniture that you think for your new decor.

Play with it in the different light settings of your home and compare to the elements that you can't change that easily such as your floor, built in cabinets and so forth.

Leave the combo out for a couple days, live with it, walk away from it, come back to it, get used to it and then decide what you like best.

It is very important that you to have an overall visual of the elements, colors and patterns you think of using. A certain color might look great in the setting of the shop but does it look good and to YOUR likings with the other elements that you like or already have?

Places like CB2, Crate and Barrel, Room and Board and so many online vendors give out samples....get your accent colors from pillow covers or small accessories. If you don't like them, you can always return them and try something else before you make the big purchases.

I completely agree with Barbidahll. I worked as the designer on a design show where I wanted to paint a wooden cabinet turquoise. The entire crew told me not to do it, that the tenants would hate it and so forth. I did it anyways and guess what? They LOVED it, it looked so beautiful and unique and it fit perfectly with the rest of the decor. As a matter of fact, I heard later on that they sold their house and made a huge profit on it. Decorating is also about taking chances and letting your creativity loose . If you paint them and realize you don't like the changes and you absolutely want the 'blah but it's "new"color' back, well... just sand off the new color, give it a new clear coat and they will look the same again. If you want a little preview I would say, try different colors on a big piece of paper (aura paint has those little samplers and their paint is environmentally friendly), hang it on the cabinet, live with it for a few days and then make up your mind. Or even better, now that I come to think about it, preview hundrerds of different color choices with Benjamin Moore's personal color viewer. They let you download pictures of your space and have you virtually paint it in as many colors as you like. Most importantly - Have Fun With It!
