I just made the romance novel wreath last night while watching one of my favorite DVDs. It took slightly less time than the length of the movie. It turned out great; I swapped the vintage gray and brown paint for a more festive holiday green. I already have a coworker asking me to make one for her. It definately put me in a crafty mood.

Gross, definitely looks familiar (and I've only ever lived with girls!)

The sweet shoppe could be my new favorite party theme, replacing circus. I love the candy balloons!

I like the idea of displaying dissasembled toys, but the execution seems a little too "goth kid DIY"ish. I definitely would never have this in my child's room, and hopefully did not have a typically detached, mopey teen that would want this.

I had only just quickly looked at the pics and thought it was a good idea, and wondered why everyone was so against these. After reading response after response that said they were cheap, I took a closer look at the frames in the pics. I understood these were plastic, but the clear ones are more apparent; these are like the lids to disposible aluminum food trays. I was thinking that maybe they would make some of the coolest jello molds though.

Wienie wraps! The classics never die; although I've never seen them like this before. I know some little goblins that will be enjoying this for Halloween.

I love your pillows! This photo is all about taste; exuberant without being over the top. There really are only a handfull of colors going on, but the patterns are amazing, and I love the groupings of white lanterns and the empty birdcage. As Isaac would say, "its working!"

The Delft plates are definitely cool, but they seem to be more of a satirical note on traditional vs modern housewares. I do like the graffitti on these pieces, I especially like #1. These would look great with some of those sandblasted pieces featured a couple of weeks ago.

I am a self-proclaimed neat freak ( just ask previous roommates) and I have to say as long as it were kept to this one wall and not throughout the house, I like this arrangement. I think its visual impactful and charming, like having an oddball thrift shop in your home. As a guest, I would love to be able to find something new everytime I visited. Being a fashion designer, I liken this to having the world's largest mood board; little bits of inspiration here and there. This photo definitely shows off some hoarding of stuff, and yet I don't see it relating to the topic of collections run amok. Maybe this should lead into some blogging about being a rat packer, which I think is worse than displaying every McDonald's Happy Meal toy ever made in a living room lined to the gills with Lack shelves from Ikea.

What's the difference between shelves of neatly displayed toys and the shelves (and shelves) of books people have? I think it has more to do with the negative stigma of adults that like toys and comics (and all that go with that; sci-fi, fantasy, video games, etc) than the size of a collection. What about all those people that have entire peg board walls in thier kitchens of pots, pans, lids, gadgets? If the argument is that those items serve a pupose, well, I don't cook, so they are just as useless to me as the entire Marvel Legends collection is to someone that doesn't like comics. Personally, I like over the top; do it extreme or don't do it at all. Minimal is not an aesthetic in my design world.

I don't want to play devil's advocate, but I am alone in feeling there is a difference between carpeting and rugs? I don't think its redundant to put a decorative piece (rug) over flooring (carpet). To me, having wall to wall carpeting is like saying you have hardwood floors, or marble, or linoleum. Its what the floors are. Rugs then seem to be the decorative piece for floors, like a print or painting on the wall. In the case of redundancy, then you might as well say its also redundant to put a framed piece on the wall if its been painted or wallpapered.

I think having bank statements, paycheck statements, rental history and references ready to go are pluses, especially if they aren't requested by the landlord. I even included a brief "cover letter" with my documents I submitted when I was first viewed my studio, explaining where I went to school, how I got my job, and stressed how organized and clean I was. I was offered the studio the following day. I also happened to luck out with no credit check; which I think is helpful to potential tenants and more reliable for landlords. I submitted proof of my income and they could see my spending habits by my bank statements. I think this was more of an assurance than a credit system that I think, especially nowadays, is quickly becomming nothing more than proof of the rogue business schemes of creditors.

Its interesting how where you call home can be such a concentration of fear. A small portion of my decision to finally give up roommates and get my own place was because of this irrational fear that my roommates had. Personally, I found thier constant walking around and turning on lights to be more bothersome than the thought of home invasion. Actually, not even that, burglars and rapists are a real thing to be scared of, but these girls were constantly spooking themselves at the thought of ghosts, zombies, aliens, Tomas from The Orphanage, etc.
I have to admit though, I cannot have cupboard doors even slightly ajar or time left on the microwave. Also, that glow around my bedroom door in the middle of the night because someone turned on the hall way light makes me want to jump off a cliff!
BTW, on sleeping naked, I do that on purpose in the hopes that cops or firemen will have to come knocking on my door!

If a knock-off is "tacky", then isn't the real deal "tacky" also? Who in the world will know you bought a fake if you don't tell them? (stop being friends with furniture designers if they can!) This is aesthetics we're talking about, not principles. If buying what is pleasing to your eye and is pleasing to your checkbook is tacky, then majority rules on takcy. Is this discussion elitist much or what? I thought this was apartmenttherapy.com, not luxurypenthousetherapy.com. Besides, I've had the pleasure of coming into contact with people who make many tens of times more money than I do and I've learned with great happiness that being able to afford more expensive things does not equate good taste. I aslo know many people who could only afford the fakes, but have a very high level of taste in making an interesting and beautiful setting. My background is in fashion by the way, not interiors. (You better believe my eye can spot a knock-off Dior a mile away! However, I'm more interested in discussing art or politics than how much they spent on thier PVC Samuri bag.)

This seems a little stark for a nursery. Why not just use primary colors instead of baby shades, which tend to give the impression of being gender specific.
